I've never touched the gap ever since I was a little kid and my mom told me my shoelace could get sucked in and it would kill me.

My mother told me the same. Many years later, my shoelace was sucked up going down the escalator at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino. Ruined my shoes and was pretty sketchy for a minute. Never thought I'd see the day.

People that stand on the moving walk like it's a ride should be thrown over the handrail by people walking.

That's what happens when you STAND on a moving sidewalk staring at your phone. Had she been walking and paying attention, this would not have happened.

That would have to be a very fast tourniquet application or she’d bleed out in a few seconds and die (once they released the pressure from the walkway on the artery.)

I think I'll pass on watching that, but thanks for the heads up.

Honestly usually bypass them unless in a rush to get some extra steps in to burn the copious amounts of alcohol I drink in airports. Will continue to do so

There's a difference between keeping a tourniquet in your truck or go bag, and having one flying as a passenger or as a food worker in the airport. Makeshift tourniquets aren't going to do enough for a femoral injury like this, probably can't get them tight enough.

This was a bit creepy:

The airport released a statement afterward, saying the faulty walkway had been repaired and reopened in about an hour.

So the engineers did an investigation in under 60 minutes? They got the severed leg out of the walkway and cleaned up the blood in 60m? Seems fishy.
