Plumbing actually scares me more than electrical. I feel pretty confident selecting appropriate conduit and making connections. One bad plumbing connection can flood your house.

Hell no, me and the OL would be divorced by day 2.
I'll pay some one else to do that shite.

How do you have electrical problems on a bathroom remodel? You really shouldn’t have plumbing problems either unless you want to relocate a shower drain or toilet. A simple remodel where all you do is update the tile, vanity/counter, faucets, shower head and a frameless shower enclosure isn’t to difficult or too expensive.
Wife wants a different mirror so you got to move the light. Changing out the old school hot/cold shower knobs for a single handle. Got to sweat some copper pipes. Remove the old wall tile and half the wall studs are rotten from water damage. Almost every DIY project involves some kind of problem you didn't anticipate.

Just keep the electricity away from the water and you'll be good.
I had a great uncle who taught my dad and my dad taught me the basics of electrical work and plumbing:
Electricity: "Don't worry about the hair, just save the ears." (This pertains the the fire resulting from electrocution/shock.)
Plumbing: "Cold water on the right, and shite don't run uphill."

I am pretty handy around the house, but I find myself to underestimate the degree of difficulty of every project I’ve undertaken. I would swallow your pride and call an electrician and a plumber first thing Monday before you waste any more time or money.

My wife and I are re-tiling one of the showers. Certainly not an easy project.
I've done a lot of tiling over the past 20 years. I demolished an 80+yo tile shower, floor and walls recently and hauled over 3000lbs to dump. Huge project for such a small space. Anyway, I'm doing glass 3x9 subway tile in scurbless shower and it is taking WAY longer than I'd expected. I mix 1/8 of a bag of mortar at a time (have to use polymer additive bc anything over 6" on a side is large format for glass), so I'm not stressing over ending up w a bucket of cured mortar and just take my time. It's a PITA but also therapeutic and looks awesome. Glass tile is a bitch until you get used to it.

I don't have any. I've done residential and light commercial repairs and remodels for years. I often repair what folks like you "fix" too

I hear ya. Last year I remodeled my kitchen. Moving my refrigerator 18 inches required moving the outlet and the angle stop for the icemaker. I’m always nervous when I solder a pipe.

You guys are NOT STUPID. You just haven't learned all the skills you need to know.
Have you got a Reader's Digest home repair book? These books are brilliant. Not to be speed read.
My husband and I rebuilt the farm house we live in from the place we bought (with holes in the roof through four layers of old roofing. Two bathrooms in this part. Only hired heating and airconditioning from a local contractor. Addition:had a contractor do the foundation work and framing for kitchen, dining room, long circular hallway three car garage and what we call the old fart bedroom above it. We did all flooring, all insulation, all plumbing, electric (an electrician friend helped with a four switch combo), roofing, painting, flooring, window installation. etc.
It's easier to build new than to renovate. But you can do anything so long as where you live will let you.
You and your spouses can do it. But for that bathroom wall, take it down to studs, clear out a work space and then rebuild as if it were new.

. I haven't let on to the wife yet that I'm stuck but she's gonna figure it out soon enough. On a scale of 1-10, how completely fricked am I?
She'll never look at you the same way.

You can do this number 9. I’m remodeling two bathrooms now and the only thing I’m paying someone to do is the painting because our ceilings are 18 ft at its highest point and I don’t want to rent and then build scaffolding. What’s the problem?

They sell paint extension poles. No need to pay anyone.

I have tongue and groove on the ceiling and don’t trust my self enough to not get paint in places I really don’t want paint

Currently remodeling guest bathroom myself.
Started out as just repainting and new vanity tops. Saturday I ripped out tub/shower unit, toilet and tile floor. I feel your pain Brother.
