My truck must have a small freon leak now because it is blowing cool but not cold.
I'll get it repaired this November when my mechanic lowers his A/C repair price and I will splurge for a liquid nitrogen system.

I have not used a heater in a vehicle in 20 years.

Drove a '71 Datsun in college that came out of Japan without a standard AC.

In south Louisiana.

And I was a kid and didn't give a shite.

Absolutely A/C is nice. But I grew up in the Deep South without A/C. We survived. We sat on our porches during the cool of the evening and visited with our neighbors. What a novel idea! Sweet memories.

IMO all this b/s about Global Warming is scare tactics pushed by the population control radicals. I grew up on a farm. In the early fifties, we had heat and dry spells that lasted all summer. It got so hot one summer the heat killed the grass; only the bitter weed survived. Our milk cows had to eat bitter weed and I had to drink bitter milk. We survived.

I've said it before, will say it again. Global Warming - Climate Change is a population control gimmick

1978 LTD when I was in college. No A/C, no headliner. If I drove over ~35 with the windows down (as they had to be), I arrived at my destination with the back of my shirt soaked in sweat and tiny pieces of foam from the roof of the car all over my clothes. Good times…

In 1974 I worked in Houston near the Galleria and lived in Spring. I commuted daily for two years with a 1969 VW Beatle.

My 68 Mustang was my daily driver for years. So, yes.

I was in my mid 20s before I had a vehicle that was an automatic plus had reliable AC.

My first vehicle had no ac....not that it did not work, there was no AC in the truck. Black vinyl bench seats, black vinyl floorboards. Black shifter.....

Had those cool arse vent windows they should put back on trucks.

No, even my 1985 S10 had ice-cold AC. I have a manifold gauge set, easily 15 lbs worth of R134a plus a two-stage vacuum pump...if my AC goes out I am fixing it ASAP.

I’ve got a 99 Dodge Ram with 415k hasn’t had AC in years, and the drivers side window doesn’t go down. I drive it sparingly this time of year.

I have a history of owning Mitsubishi cars Dating back to the 80’s. They’ve always had a problem with the condensation drains.

1st one the drain was hard plastic tube with a 90 degree bend. Minute crud in the pan would block it allowing the pan to fill such that turning a corner would pour cold water onto the feet of front seat passengers.

The last 2 the drain exits the firewall real close to the middle into a large open area behind the engine. Catches a ton of dust, leaves, etc.. Usually took those to a shop and used air hose to blow them out.

Growing up in the 50's my dad never had a car with A/C and the running joke was if you wanted to be cool in the summertime he'd say:

My dads car didn't have AC when I was a kid. Rode all over the country in that thing.

My dad had a 1985 Dodge Ram Charger in the late 90's. The AC quit and the power windows went out shortly after. The only ventilation it had was the small triangle pop out windows on the doors and a pop up vent on the roof. (like a camper)
When we would turn down our street we would swing the doors open on it. Absolutely brutal.

Had a Nissan that somehow got a nail deliberately drilled into the A/C line, and it got repaired, but never worked correctly after that...think I went 4 summers without a/c, just insane, looking back at it.

The same car also had a bizarre starter that sometimes worked and sometimes didn't - so during those times when it didn't work, I'd have one person take a small piece of lead pipe, drop it down a bit in a certain spot, and I'd turn the key while the person outside tapped on the starter.

By golly, I don't miss them days.

Would it be risky for the system to simply recharge it again and have A/C for a few weeks?

Nah. If it’s low.. the recharge will put it back to where it needs to be. Those recharge kits usually have a cheap gauge that will at least get you in the ballpark.
