Yes, if it was in a time machine.

Moving back today is not a consideration.

All of the cow pastures are now shopping centers and subdivisions.

All of the dirt roads are now 4-lane highways.

All of the creeks are now concrete culverts.

All of the police officers are now wanna-be special ops stormtroopers.

All of the churches are now 10,000 member compounds.

All of the older historical neighborhoods have been taken over by culcha warriors.

Finally, in the last election, the county that was once Newt Gingrich's district, voted red in every election since the beginning of time, actually went for Hillary.

Not a chance in hell I would ever go back, except for the fact my parents still live there, for the time being.

Zero desire ever to move back to Louisiana. I moved for a reason.

Don’t do it. You change and your hometown changes. At least don’t move back thinking things will be the same. As Thomas Wolfe said,”Make your mistakes, take your chances, look silly, but keep on going. You can’t go home again.”

The only reason I would is because we have land there. It's 4-5 hours from where I live now. We would miss the conveniences of the city though.

I said I would NEVER go back home once I got out of there, but the older I get the more I think about going back to north Louisiana when I retire. I will inherit about 20 acres of property and I can see at least building some kind of retirement home on the land just for the fishing and relaxing in the woods and then just travel as much as I can as long as I am able.

Nope. I only grew up 30 minutes away, but there's no chance I ever move back.

Same, but for somewhat different reasons.

I grew up in rural Vermilion parish. We had to drive 10 miles to the nearest grocery store. My nearest neighbor, that I wasn't related to, was about half mile away. I enjoy the convenience of being near amenities too much to move back home.

I don't live in a walkable neighborhood right now and I'm already ready to move after about 6 months of living here.

I wouldn't mind having a "camp" or something near my family property though.

You would have to pay me 250k/yr to move back to Gretna.

Same here. The entire Nola metro area seems small, dirty, dilapidated, and depressing. Like the whole place is held together with duct tape. I visit but never want to stay.

I left Monroe about 25 years ago to work in the O&G Mecca of Houston, TX. Just moved back home. Had a great job offer and my previous employer had one foot into bankruptcy. Always wanted to live back here since I grew up in the outdoors fishing, hunting, and just hanging out on the river. Want my kids to experience the same. It’s way more laid back here. Yes, the redneck culture is still strong here but overall, I am looking forward to finishing my career and retiring here.

Yes.
Life on the lake.

No Walmart or McDonalds in the town.
Err’body knows your name and family.

Very fond of my hometown and enjoy visiting...for short periods of time. You couldn't pay me to live there.

I was eight years old and running with a dime in my hand
Into the bus stop to pick up a paper for my old man
I'd sit on his lap in that big old Buick and steer as we drove through town
He'd tousle my hair and say son take a good look around
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
In '65 tension was running high at my high school
There was a lot of fights between the black and white
There was nothing you could do
Two cars at a light on a Saturday night in the back seat there was a gun
Words were passed in a shotgun blast
Troubled times had come
To my hometown
My hometown
My hometown
My hometown
Now Main Street's whitewashed windows and vacant stores
Seems like there ain't nobody wants to come down here no more
They're closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks
Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain't coming back
To your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Last night me and Kate we laid in bed
Talking about getting out
Packing up our bags maybe heading south
I'm thirty five we got a boy of our own now
Last night I sat him up behind the wheel and said son take a good look around
This is your hometown

I grew up in Bogalusa, Louisiana Yall need to shoot whoever decided to put that stinky arse paper mill in the middle of town. That place stinks.

Without that paper mill, Bogalusa would be an even worse place than it is now. Ever since I was a kid, the paper mill is the only reason the town didn't just dry up and blow away.

The only reason I would is because housing is way cheaper so we could live in the nicest areas.

But it's still Louisiana so ehh

Absolutely not. The only thing left for me in my hometown is a minimum wage paying job and meth. It was a good place to grow up, but there is nothing there for me to do except get in trouble.

I’d slit my wrists in a warm bath if I ever had to live in Louisiana again, much less my home town.
