i have a high deductible plan as well. Sucks when you need something like this. I had to get an MRI last year and just paid cash and didn't go through insurance.

CT scan is about $200: LINK

That cost more OOP than my bilateral knee replacements.

I'd call your provider...

This, that POS caused a lot of middle class families to change their lifestyles...

Insurance cost went up while coverage went down... But, you got to keep your doctor...

Obama ruined this country, and we'll be suffering from it for a long time.

Should have gotten in December when you had met your deductible for last year. Next time read your EOB more closely.

I like that you just assume everyone meets their deductible each year and that somehow makes the money spent not exist

I'm assuming in December he didn't know he needed a CT scan.

"Hey, doc, I've met my deductible. Let's do a CT scan."
"For what"
"I dunno, just go looking... I've met my deductible."

My previous employer offered two options for health insurance through Blue Cross. One was a lower premium/higher deductible plan, and everyone was defaulted into that on the annual open enrollment period. I get it from an employer standpoint, it is cheaper to enroll staff in that plan, but even if you had been in the higher premium/lower deductible plan, they would flip you to the other one unless you went in to change it back. One of the guys I worked with was fairly new and ended up with the bad plan one year, and said it sucked even worse in January.

My current employer's plan is much better, and we have a $350/person or $1,000/family deductible to meet. So prescription refills or doctor's visits the first month or two of the year are more out of pocket for us, but once that has been met it is our normal copay amounts again.

Yeah, I intentionally waited until January to schedule an MRI because I wasn't anywhere close to my deductible in 2023

Normally, drug costs are not factored in for medical expenses. Not saying yours isn't only that I have not seen it that way.

What’s the actual cost of a ct scan? $8,218.20

Inpatient or outpatient? What city are you in? Different places charge different amounts and your insurance affects the price. Go to mdsave.com and research the cash for the test you need. I just assumed Columbia SC since your a USCe fan and I found you a CT scan for $536. You can pay cash for it and then submit it as a claim on your insurance. They won’t pay you back unless you have met your deductible, but they will count it towards your deductible.

ETA: $464 in Lake City SC. You just have to get your doctor to send the order there.

Mine go towards my deductible. They always have. I've never seen it any other way.

Lop off a middle toe. You can still walk and it should get you under coverage.

I actually had someone come to my office and say that last year.
