I know the name, but I'm not really familiar with him. Is this a big of a deal as, say, Jimmy Swaggert's downfall?

quote:

Dr. Tony Evans, a well-known evangelical Texas pastor, has stepped down from leadership at his church.

In a statement posted Sunday to the church's website, Evans, the senior pastor at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, said he is stepping down due to an unnamed "sin."

"The foundation of our ministry has always been our commitment to the Word of God as the absolute supremestandard of truth to which we are to conform our lives," Evans' statement reads. "When we fall short of that standard due to sin, we are required to repent and restore our relationship with God. A number of years ago, I fell short of that standard. I am, therefore, required to apply the same biblical standard of repentance and restoration to myself that I have applied to others."

Evans said he has "committed no crime," but "did not use righteous judgement in my actions."

Not sure about the age, or how naive (insert pronoun) was, but I bet you got the verb right.

He isn't stepping down because of the sin. He is stepping down because it is about to go public and he cannot contain it.

Anyone who devotes themselves to any of these insane cult churches deserves to have their money taken…I mean tithed…from them.

He is an incredible preacher, his sermons and speaking is some of the best you’ll ever experience

Maybe he signed an incorrect tax return?

Believer or not as everybody’s picking up a stone to throw at him, this may shock you, everyone is a sinner

Tony Evans is pretty good. He doesn’t teach kill whitey. I wish him the best and respect his decision to step down.

I’m going to wait to see what comes out before rushing to judgment. I’ve always thought that Tony Evans was the real deal.

That just means he was caught and he chose to step down to keep it quiet instead of it being a big scandal and everyone knowing what he did

Good thing Paul didn’t have to step as a spreader of Christ’s message, because of his past. Why do we do this as a society?

Very sadden by this. I’ve always liked Tony Evans. When his wife passed several years ago he was very open about his grief and handled it with dignity and class.

I’m sure the agnostics and atheists will be here soon to crap all over him. That’s fine. Whatever he did was wrong by his own admission. I’ll just pray for redemption.
