From the coast what is the best direction to travel to avoid traffic during evacuations before a hurricane?

Which coast?

South? Go north.

East? Go north west.

West? Go north east.

General rule of thumb is if you travel the direction of the weak side of the storm you wont have to go as far to avoid major impacts. So along the north gulf coast that would be west.

But all that is also relevant to the direction of the storms approach and if you traveling into a large populated area.

If avoiding traffic is your biggest concern then get a boat and go south.

Back to your tailgate until the traffic subsides.

Stay the whole game since most fans leave at halftime.

If storm surge or a falling tree isn’t of concern, just stay put and leave after storm passes should there be extended power outages.
