These type of sentences always crack me up.

STOP THE MADNESS!!! THEY HAD CHEESE PLATTERS, AND THE BOWLS OF SHRIMP WERE CLEAN!!!

Next thing you’ll know they’re using cloth napkins...

For their personal use? Unethical and the laws need to change. Those inmate feeding funds are tax dollars, not bonuses.

Law enforcement doesn't keep crime under control, they just enforce the law. T

I live in Etowah county in a little town called Southside, Al. This has made a lot of people very happy in our little corner of Alabama. I doubt anything will come of it. Oh well we know they are all crooks anyway!!

Rainbow City Police Chief Jonathon Horton, who worked for the Etowah County Sheriff's Office under former sheriff James Hayes, is currently opposing Entrekin in this year's race for sheriff. One plank of Horton's campaign platform is a pledge to not keep any inmate-feeding funds.

Vote him out. You and your county get that chance soon.

One of the constitutional amendments in 2016 was about moving the Etowah Co. Sheriff employees to their own pay system, so they could get raises without every county employee getting one.

"Amendment 7 was designed to place the employees of the Etowah County Sheriff's office under the authority and supervision of the Personnel Board of the office instead of the county. This move allowed Etowah County sheriff's deputies to receive raises without having to concurrently give similar raises to all county employees."

Ballotpedia -- Alabama Amendment 7

Looks like it worked.

(I know they are not related. I'm just joking about how screwed up the Alabama Constitution is that county personnel policy decisions can require constitutional amendments.)

Aren't some LA Sheriff's doing a similar thing? They get paid $24 and change per head each day they house a state prisoner. They provide three very basic meals, zero rehabilitation programs and warehouse the inmates in parish jails. They keep the difference between the $24 and what they actually spend. I'm almost positive that it used to go in their pocket or campaign warchest. They may have to put it towards their budget these days.

The money in the account was allocated by federal, state and municipal governments to feed inmates in the Etowah County jail, but was not used for that purpose and was instead personally pocketed by Entrekin.

"In regards to feeding of inmates, we utilize a registered dietitian to ensure adequate meals are provided daily," Entrekin said Sunday via email. "As you should be aware, Alabama law is clear as to my personal financial responsibilities in the feeding of inmates. Regardless of one's opinion of this statute, until the legislature acts otherwise, the Sheriff must follow the current law."
