I'll just say this. One of the easiest things a man can do is spend 25 bucks or so a month on a 20K death benefit policy. Add an accident and a catastrophic illness policy for even less and protect your family without having to ask for others to give that same 20 bucks via GFM. Blows my mind.

There’s a whole entitled and selfish generation that don’t understand sacrifice, so that shouldn’t surprise you.

Just seems selfish that people can’t sacrifice 20-40 a month for life insurance, but they have no problem asking others to sacrifice that amount or more when tragedy strikes

If you don’t like GFM, don’t donate. Times have changed. There is also less door to door selling of cookies these days. Trade offs.

BUT, that doesn't mean discourse isn't still warranted.

I agree with the the observation of the OPer and his dissent. (OP'er if you're an "it" then please excuse my prejudices.)

I would like to think that the overwhelming majority of the GFM accounts are warranted and funding is needed, but sometimes somebody ought to mention (from a clandestine, cancelable Twitter account, no less) to Connie that she ought not water down the GFM roux by wanting $13,000 to pay for her diabetic, geriatric cat's colostomy bag procedure.

I would like to believe that it (GFM, etc.) isn't being used and abused as a way to get 15 minutes of social media fame, but I would also like to believe that ignorance is not bliss.

The increasing quantity of people with their hands out for a problem that might not require funding (Or else!) is hard to ignore if you've stumbled upon the platform and realized that with so many faux needs, it's bound to have an effect on spreading the money too thin. I wonder how many times a day does a potential donor see a more pressing, noble and needful matter but who can't donate because they've just given their last bit of expendable donations to Carl Perkin's terminally ill and well-off grandmother's Stair Chair Lift account that Carl started when he saw the resale value on those bad boys?

BUT, as Indefatigable said, the solution is to ignore it and so that is what I shall do, but that doesn't mean I still don't walk the floor with worry over precious little McKennileigh and Konnhor's immediate need for a spiritual journey of growth to Disney World with Mommy and Daddy after the new Escalade they had to have stifled all hope of seeing it come to fruition.

Alas, that is life, and life is unfair, but dammit, that doesn't mean it's right or okay. I digress.
