"You are value"???
Why would someone car's value drop just because the EPA is going to drop the idle requirement for vehicles?
I have a new car and all I have to do is push a button next to the shift lever to turn off the stop/idle feature. It's easier than changing radio stations...

Terrible rule that let auto manufacturers loophole mileage standards to create an objectively miserable experience for the driver. This was the reason I initially steered away from buying Ford and went with Ram instead, which was a much better choice overall.

Of all the examples of the stupidity of government, the auto-stop “feature” has got to be in the top ten.
Auto stop-start and the spill-less gas can spouts that basically ensure you dump gas everywhere, are two of the dumbest examples of government intrusion into consumer products that I can think of.

This is outstanding news.
Maybe they can fix the cylinder de-activation bullshite next.

What they don't know is i bought a wire/chip that goes between that button and the ECU and turns it off every time i start the car.
This. I bought a bypass harness the plugs in under the center console that automatically disables the auto start/stop. Installed it about a week after purchasing the car.

It kills car batteries, so now we get to make and throw away more of them.

There's zero chance that the cumulative amount of gasoline saved by this feature exceeds the amount that has been poured onto the ground across America because of these stupid things:

I unhooked my auxiliary battery and pulled a fuse. Bypassed my start stop!

Wears out the starter
Yep, We just replaced my wife's '19 Traverse's starter. Left her in the middle of Veterans Blvd in Metry during peak traffic. Had to get it towed to the dealership.... Thank you extended warranty...

No, it doesn't
Yes, it does. Typically with school pickup my wife will average about 18 MPG over a tank w/out using SS. When she does use start stop she gets consistently 22+MPG. She can be sitting in that line for over 30 minutes at times.

$100?? It's one setting in FORScan, and ForScan can fix a lot of other issues too (double horn honk anyone?) I've "fixed" eight or nine Fords over the years with my one FORScan license and $20 OBDII adapter.

It actually doesn't prolong the life of the engine. Every time you turn the engine off and then 30 seconds later activate the starter solenoid that turns the crankshaft flywheel, you're essentially forcing the engine RPMs to jump from a dead stop to 750-800 or so almost instantly. That is going to wear out both the starter and crankshaft/flywheel.
Wouldn't affect the compressor and alternator as much, but will definitely put stress on the serpentine belt.
From what I have read and seen with studies on fleet vehicles and general reliability reports, there are no discernable increases in issues with engine wear/life. To this point, it is only assumptions. It makes sense that some things might wear more.
At this point the only data driven claim I have seen is that some specific BMW model from 2012-2015 era had issues with the timing chain stretching due to the increased starts so the BMW shops were replacing timing chains around 100-120k miles whether there were measurable issues or not.
I have read one paper that said AGM batteries are better suited for SS than traditional VRLA but I think I have only seen GM put AGM batteries in their cars.

My habit is to hit the off button as soon as I crank my truck.

I mean, I'm telling you I did it. 2019 model.
Trading the truck in today actually, with 297,500 miles.
Have had plenty of other maintenance done over the course of that 297,500 miles, but it's got the original starter and I've changed batteries once.
Will be the first thing I do when I get home tonight with the new truck, assuming it's still in the same spot.

While i'm not a fan of the SS, it doesn't add any increased wear.

It maybe wears out a starter or something depending on how the restart is accomplished.
You are disagreeing with OP then agreeing.
