Bingo.

We dont do a commercial Christmas. Gifts are only for small children, no decorations.

The pressure of commercialization is driving people insane, but they dont know how to quit.

I decorate bc of my children but I reuse lights and things - I don’t buy decorations every year

I work at a church so Christmas burns me out tbh

I used to love it, favorite time of year when I had small kids.

But the commercial aspect gets draining after a while. My parents refused to celebrate it, we didnt have Christmas. I dont think I missed much.

Our youngest is 10, so I don’t think it’ll last much longer, but I will keep pretending

I can 10000% assure you that the fake plastic tree in our home, that will literally never leave the building or ever see the light of day, does not have any impact whatsoever on the environment.

wait...wtf? Are you advocating for no trees?

Actually this can't be a real post, nvm. Good one you got me!

It still boggles my mind that we use plastic bags. Paper bags are made of a renewable resource, trees, and degrade in a matter of weeks.

I’m also not a fan of single use plastics, but the elephant in the room has nothing to do with Christmas.

Stores need to stop buying and providing plastic bags. They’re like tumbleweeds in any Walmart parking lot and will be around forever.

Go back to paper, and encourage people to bring re-useable bags with them to the grocery.

Paper bags have a much larger carbon footprint than plastic. More energy/water intense process to make. As long as plastic bags end up in the landfill, their impact is insignificant.

I like Christmas. I’m not convinced that Santa or Jesus wants us to celebrate with an explosion of garbage each year.

If your concern is about garbage, may I suggest you visit India, Indonesia or China to encourage them to follow proper waste management procedures.

The U.S. is lightyears ahead of them about these practices, even including Christmas waste.
