Why doesn’t Entergy LA just run Entergy New Orleans? That seems like an easy enough solution for all.

Any company that comes in to run the electric system will find it in a mess.. And we are going to pay for the upgrades(?).

Because it would be controlled by the PSC and not Latoya

HELL YES.

I hope the city puts their money where the mouth is.

It will be S&WB x1000.

All the important positions will be filled with grifters and race baiters taking home 6 figure salaries.

Entergy Nola just told the city council to hold their beer and watch this.

I thought the foundation of the complaint was that Entergy basically promised they could reroute power in the event that the over river lines failed so the city could essentially be self sufficient and that turned out to be a lie.

They're upset over the New Orleans Power Station.

Because one is regulated by the State Public Service Commission, while the City of New Orleans insists on maintaining regulatory authority over the other.

Who’s been dissatisfied with Entergy New Orleans?

Please explain how another company would have done better.

I’m not going to pretend to know the inner workings of running a grid like Entergy does, but the issue isn’t that.

The issue is that Entergy NO made promises that they could run self sufficient with no outside transmission lines if the situation ever arose. The situation sure enough happened, and it turns out Entergy lied. This after they sent actors to the city council meetings to push the plant through.

I’m no fan of utilities but gotta say New Orleans needs them a hell of a lot more than they need New Orleans. This is the most horribly ran city I’ve ever lived in. Disgusting. And the Mayor has the audacity to tell ppl to take their own garbage to the dump. New Orleans city management is completely incompetent. Yuppies and Northeastern transplants don’t GAF bc they’re only here to get herpes in their 20s before moving back to NYC.

Black starting the power plant isn’t as easy as just turning a switch. There was a solution to bring power in from the Cleco tie that probably was quicker and more effective then running the plant

The optics of the New Orleans Power Station look bad given the paid actor scandal and some of the things that were said, but there was more at play than just hitting the "on button" at NOPS.

That shite was stupid as can be, but it was likely as much an indictment on the Banana Republic in which they are trying to actually do business, as it is on them.

City-Run Utility -- A municipalization of Entergy's assets by the City of New Orleans so the city can assume direct ownership and management of the electric and gas systems for customers. This would allow the city to have maximum control over customer rates and business operations, the elimination of a rate of return requirement, and access to potential reimbursements afforded under the federal government emergency assistance laws.

PLEASE be this! So the rest of us can just laugh.

That may be right, but that still doesn’t tell me that another power company would have performed better.

Remember that these companies have to operate in an environment, not of honest inspection and criticism, but of political grandstanding and anti-power production generally.

Remember when a company wanted to open an incinerator and electricity generator in the Almonaster industrial corridor?

How about when there was a proposal to expand the power plant out in the East?

It’s not like the city is open to new and overlapping power production plants. The Dem controlled city takes its marching orders from the loony left, who oppose any power production that is not solar or wind.

If Entergy would want purchase money to turn Entergy New Orleans over to another private company, why would it give their assets to the city for free for the municipal option?

I’ll tell you which option is the worst. The city run option.

Entergy has actually been really good in my opinion the last few years. Any outages I had were repaired very quickly. What they did post hurricane is pretty amazing. I had power back in about 10 days. That’s not too bad and I’m not sure anyone else would’ve done better. Are they perfect, no.

But frick having the city of New Orleans directly responsible. Ever heard of the SWB?

Running the plant with the fuel that had available would only have supported about 2% of the city at the time. At capacity it can run 11% of the city (128 of the 1100 MW necessary). Using the tie and the station as a switching yard, meant much more than that 2%.

Let’s see what kind of balls the city council have because Entergy just flopped their dingaling out and dared someone to challenge them.

Yeah, they definitely just mushroom stamped New Orleans.
