I understand the frustration, but its no different from being on generator power at the camp which I enjoy doing
I enjoy it over the weekend in the summer, or a week of hunting during the winter. I myself can do it. However, the pregnant and elderly that are crammed up with me living in one little room sleeping on recliners at night and sweating to death during the day are needing some relief. Lining up some bigger equipment and more AC's/Air Movers for the next few weeks, and a better way to cook/heat water is what I'm working on.
The house is in good shape, but I didn't say it was undamaged. Luckily we had a bunch of roofing felt and roofing nails on standby and jumped on the roof first thing Monday morning. Been working my arse off at home like everyone else, and still having to go into work. Luckily we didn't flood. I wouldn't be here if it had. Thought about relocating and just abandoning the fridges, but there's too many of us, and I don't want to lose the wood floors and have the wall joints crack because of the heat and humidity. The doors are already all sticking. I'd rather stay here, rough it as bearable as possible for the ones that need cooler temps, and pray they are over estimating it. The river parishes took a beating, and lets face it, we're second fiddle to the larger populations on each side of us. Blessed, but stressed.

If you have the money to have 5 refrigerators, an entire house, and a shop…you have enough to go buy a permanent generator.
What a selfish arse post.
Don't have access to natural gas or it would have been done. Definitely going to look into propane for the future. First world problem of the day, I know.

Spend the money and get a Generac backup generator. It is a lot of money but worth every damn penny.
Pretty sure that would take a few weeks right now, not to mention the permitting and such. Electric companies are not going to be pulling meters and doing new construction stuff till this is all over and makes my efforts moot. As said, going to look into options for the future.

Yeah….you might want to consider some lifestyle changes.

You’re doing all you can do. Best I can tell you is to find a routine. It’ll only be temporary. As others have said they’re going to give you worst case. It took about 21 days for me after Laura. I was running trying to help other people patch things up and that kept us busy. Find a way to stay busy. It’s a lot better sweating using a chain saw than sitting on the couch. I also found that I could get a hot shower if I turned off everything else and let the generator charge the HW heater for about an hour. Then flip it back and shower with lights on. We could get 2 hot showers like that. A hot shower helped me mentally.
Also you might want to just get away for a weekend. We left for 3 days and just went to Shreveport and it helped a lot also.
When this is all over…get a 500 gallon propane tank and start converting everything 1 by one. And get a generator if you can. But if you just convert to LED lights, gas HW heater and stove you can do almost everything with a smaller generator.

I was told today by lineman not to expect power at my place till at least November and it could be longer. It’s depressing to say the least. Our family (4 households) has consolidated to the one home that has the least amount of damage and we are running a generator just at night to sleep.
I’ve been running a chainsaw 8 hours a day for 3 days, my hands are destroyed, so are feet from standing in water all day. This is a humbling experience to say the least. I’m just hoping things can return back to some form of normalcy for me and my family by Christmas.

I was talking about in the future. I know that it is hard to get a Generac at the moment. I just bought a house back in April and I tried to buy one was told there was a 6 month waiting list. My brother has a propane Generac at his house in northeast Louisiana because he does not have access to natural gas and he said it was worth every single penny. He said his electricity was off for 11 days back in Feburary because of the winter storm and the only time he was without power was the 12 hours on the 5th or 6th day of the when he was waiting on Delta fuel to come fill up his tank and he had to cut the generator off so he had enough propane to keep the fireplace and other heaters running.

After three days, my sister and her husband decided they weren’t going to spend the next month focusing on saving the contents of their three freezers. They chose what they wanted to keep the most and put into one freezer, they chucked some things, and brought a couple of ice chests of things to Lafayette to offer to other family members. She swears she will never again keep so much stuff. We shall see.

Have you considered not running 5 freezers, every outlet, and several window units?
Seems you might have some viable long term changes in your life that would lighten the load considerably

Go liquid cooled. Skip the generac.

Cutting out, getting rid of, or moving things today and tomorrow is the plan. So many fridge/freezers is because its combined of two families/3 households that we have bunched together right now. One is just full of beer, might have to wait till after the game tomorrow to cut that one out. Don't need a multitude of condiments in the others. Going through all of the game and fish and either moving to another location that has power, throwing/giving away, or cooking.

One of the girls that works with my wife was told 4-8 weeks or longer when she pressed for an estimate. As of yesterday she still couldn’t get out of her neighborhood…

You faired better than a good bit of people during the storm you should be grateful you have a home with minimal damage to live in right now.
When I heard it was going to be a month after Laura, I was a little deflated. But after a moment of thinking about the amount of people who could not live in their home or their home was destroyed, I quickly realized I had nothing to complain to about and I was indeed very fortunate. And as I mentioned, it was “only” 15 days instead of the one month estimate.

So are you having a watch party tomorrow night? That will solve your beer and meat problems.

You know you don’t have to run them all 24 hours a day correct? You can run one for an hour or two and then unplug it and move on to the next one, then the next, and then start over after the last one.
