Entergy Estimates I'll get power by September 29th. Some long term changes needed.

There's no way in hell I want to be hunting and hauling gasoline for a whole damn month, but looks like I'm gonna be apart of that generator life. House is in good shape, but we have 5 fridge/freezer units and a big ole house and shop to run. Someone is bringing us a bigger generator from out of state so I can at least run every outlet and light in the whole place. Looks like we'll be consolidating some of the freezers/fridges or moving them to locations that have power. Going to try and wall off half of the house so I don't have to cool the entire thing on window units. Going to buy some more fans and get air circulating in the other half of the house. Biggest pain in the arse is we don't have natural gas available at this house, so all electric ranges and water heaters. I'm ok with cold showers before bed, but looks like I need a little propane camping stove/hot plate type burner for inside the house so I'm not cooking every single thing on the patio, coffee included. Hell, just to heat water to shave and wash dishes would be all I really need inside. What are some other ideas and tips to live this kinda life for a month. I know some Laura/Gustav/Katrina vets have some thoughts.

Sounds like you’re pretty blessed, all things considered.

We were told a month minimum after Laura had we had it in 15 days. Those that were told 8 weeks had it in about 4 -6 weeks.

Thoughts and prayers for you!
But as another poster said, Entergy usually underestimates the times. My guess is 2 more weeks max

Do you live in Louisiana?

secure the house, move into hotel or AirBNB until it's restored. Go to a family member's house.

It’s a natural disaster. Things can’t just be fixed overnight from it. It’ll come back before the 29th. Prolly no more than 2 weeks unless you live in Golden Meadow and anywhere south of there, or in some parts of the River Parishes.

After Hurricane Laura, my area of south Lake Charles was without power for 5 long weeks. I was fortunate to have access to a Kubota diesel generator and it ran almost my whole house. It was a very loud and expensive time.

Move
Camp stoves and window units. Eventually, you'll start seeing locations for hot food, restaurants and food trucks start popping up. Take advantage of those.
We were out of power for 33 days after Laura. They're rebuilding the entire grid. It takes time. They can bury the lines and that may help, but then you're going to bitch about how much your bill increases from that.
All in all your post sounds like your just complaining about roughing it. You faired better than a good bit of people during the storm you should be grateful you have a home with minimal damage to live in right now.

Spend the money and get a Generac backup generator. It is a lot of money but worth every damn penny.
I understand the frustration, but its no different from being on generator power at the camp which I enjoy doing. They are estimating September 22nd for my power to be restored. All in all I am lucky I still have a home and there is no damage. I can live without power for a few weeks.

If you have the money to have 5 refrigerators, an entire house, and a shop…you have enough to go buy a permanent generator.
What a selfish arse post.
