Agreed. But there is nothing "nice" about a small diamond. It isn't the prettiest. It isn't rare. It isn't exclusive.

For shiny pebbles, most colored stones are considerably more rare.

The smaller your unit, the bigger and better the diamond needs to be.

If you haven't already made a purchase, I would highly recommend Rare Carat. Lab grown and they'll even put it in a setting for you. If you want to kick some business to a local jeweler, buy the loose diamond off of rare carat and then go local to get it set. I bought my wife(no pics) a 2ct loose stone and then went local for the setting. All in I was at about $5,500($1800ish for the diamond and the balance on 2 bands). She's put up with me for 28 years, it was time for an upgrade.

Hers was moisenite (spelling). She designed it. All I had too do was pay. Completely custom.

It was still about a 6 week timeline from payment to me picking it up though.

Good luck

This is the correct advice. Lab Grown is actually about 25% the price of a natural grown Diamond.

All the same properties & it cannot be detected by a special machine or equipment etc from a legit jeweler. Nobody in the world can detect with a naked eye nor a magnifying glass.

And rings are worse than a vehicle depreciating. Soon as you buy it, try to turn around and sell it, good luck with that!

I know the thread is a year old, but visit my friends on 47th street in NYC for your next marriage. You can walk into one "store" and it will have 30+ vendors inside that one door you can play off each other. You don't have to pay NY sales tax if you get it shipped to your home, rather than walking out with it.

It's a particularly great idea for colored gems, too. You can go to Colombia for cheap emeralds, but then your soon to be ex-wife will just assume you're on a sex tourism trip.

Since this thread is bumped, I ended up dropping $14k on Blue Nile. Great experience. She loved it. Our 1 year anniversary is this week.

The internet has good info on buying. Learn about buying diamonds. Then consider whether she is the type to appreciate a museum piece, or would prefer something not perfect, with flaws the eye can’t or can barely see, that’s larger. Or just as big and gaudy as possible even if it’s a piece of junk. Seriously.

Paid like 14k for the wife’s ring. Wish lab grown was a thing. Did a 1.4 Ct cushion cut with halo. D/vvs1/excellent. It appraised for a shite ton higher, but that means nothing except higher insurance on an overly inflated rock. My wife likes it though and she’s a smokeshow.

Buy one on a quality internet auction like Heritage. You will get it at fair value, not some huge retail mark-up.

Go here, ask for John or Johnny. They will explain everything about rings.
Better prices and quality, worth the drive.
