I think spending a ton of money is a waste and I’m a married woman saying this. If she’s being an arse about ut or overly picky/demanding, there’s a sign to run. That’s what I told our son when he was shopping for an engagement ring. He spent what he was comfortable with yet worked with what she’d mentioned her favorite shape stone was.

I prefer white gold mainly price wise and they do look the same. I’m just practical.

Someone should conduct a research study on posters’ comments in the engagement ring threads vs the comments in the divorce threads.

You can usually get a reduced price if you make a cash offer. My wife's ring was priced at 17k. I paid 14k. Still insane money for a piece of jewelry but a 20% savings is better than nothing.

Don't spend too much, the odds of her sticking around over 5 years are less than 50%.

Congrats on the engagement and good luck. I honestly hope you succeed at marriage in this world we live in today

Dudes who say this typically drive a Hellcat on a 96month payment plan @ 9.5%

To each his own, many of life's pleasures are poor investments.

just learn the 4 C's of diamond buying (cut, clarity, carat and color) and know that size isn't the only thing you're looking for. A reputable jeweler should be able to walk you through your best options when considering all 4 C's...if not move on to someone who can

Can’t recommend Blue Nile enough.
Call them and start asking questions. It also helps to know a little about the future Mrs’ preferences on stone size and shape and band design.

Bought my wife a good quality ring that cost around 6k. Looks 10x better than others I’ve seen that are more expensive and bigger but lower quality stone

Bought my wife's from Brilliant Earth. She absolutely loves it.
This is the way to go. Get a kick out of the chumps spending over 5k. We don’t even wear our actual bands. Wear the rubber ones most of the time due to going to the gym before or after work. Gets old swapping them out.

If your girl is smart, she won't care if the diamond is a lab grown diamond or not.
My advice, buy a matching set from an estate sale.
My wife's band is platinum, european cut diamonds. 90 or so years old.
Couldn't find a decent ring so had a matching one made, showed her three stones with light hitting them. Vvs1 diamond, flawless lab diamond, moissanite. Same cut on all.
She picked the moissanite because they are a much more feiry stone, I saved 12 grand.
it's prettier and was 95% cheaper.
At the end of the day, it's a shiny pebble.

I think it's very individualistic, some people want nice things, have the ability, and are willing to pay for it.
Vacations, watches, cars, fine dining are all poor investments but everyone has a vice.
