I'm on the board of directors of a company and management just sent an email that they wanted to fill a position with a black person because. No reason was given but I'd imagine it has to do with appealing to the SJW's that they do business with. We don't fall under EEOC hiring guidelines so there's no real legal issue. I replied back that they if that's their plan, don't publicize it.

I have no problem hiring anyone regardless of who they are or what they do, but this didn't settle well with me. Has anyone else dealt with this?

If I'm on the board, my first question is "Why aren't we just hiring the best candidate for the job?"

It’s called racism and a violation of civil rights.

Your bosses sound racist.

My dad was given a mandate that he had to hire a black lady to fill one of his open spots.

Of course, she was extremely underqualified compared to the other candidates, and performed very poorly and ended up fired a year later.

Wasted resources and time on a dud hire.

42 USC 1981 prohibits racial discrimination in contracts. It applies to employment discrimination and it covers all employers.

Your employer is violating the law.

Just as racist as whoever hired the whole cast of the Broadway musical "Hamilton". EDIT: Only ONE white person on the entire cast.

I've been on a couple of non-profit boards that did try to have their workforce representative of the community demographics and the demographics of the people they served. I never saw any communication that explicitly stated they wanted a particular race or sex to fill any certain position.

It’s been implied in many sectors for years.

I honestly didn't know there were companies that were not required to not discriminate besides maybe actors/models where a role needs a specific gender/race/age.

Probably because it is highly illegal.

This sounds like a failure by the hiring manager to properly vet the applicant pool.

The Californi AB 979 says hold my beer

quote:

AB-979 - Board diversity requirements Finally, AB-979 mandates that boards have at least one nonwhite board member by the end of 2021. By the end of 2022, boards with five through eight members will be required to have two from underrepresented groups; a corporation with 9 or more directors must have at least 3 directors from underrepresented communities. This builds on earlier legislation which required similar measures for female representation in 2019 and 2021.

Last week Sean Payton said the Saints, need to add a cornerback. I honestly hope he hires a black man to fill the position.

A company that I have been employed by had a standard minority ratio that they had to fit into their hiring model. Led to some absolute IDIOTS being in positions that they had no business being in.

Oh, english is your 2nd language? Oh you were VP of "Women Professional Club" at your college? this is your first construction job? oh you went to a HBCU?????.....perfect fit, you are now a Lead Field Engineer supporting billion dollar construction. Don't worry about those highly qualified, dedicated, and experienced hands, they were born with privilege.
