I can’t wait. fricke I can’t wait. Jobs are so bullshite, bosses are terrible, work cultures are terrible, pay scales are so low, and the cherry on top is that organizations aren’t just rejecting WFH, they also are rejecting hybrid models. Oh I can’t wait to never have to deal with this shite anymore and just live like the Natives in 1810.

Yep. In 15-20 years I'll be 62-67. Amazing timing for me

Elon is way off on this.
Work is already optional.

Absolutely.
My job is so far down the list of what makes me who I am.
It kinda makes me feel bad for people who define themselves by their work.

Assuming Mankind and the Earth are around for another million years, we'll have lived in the small blip of time when everything changed.

What does utopia look like for mice and rats? According to a researcher who did most of his work in the 1950s through 1970s, it might include limitless food, multiple levels and secluded little condos. These were all part of John Calhoun’s experiments to study the effects of population density on behavior. But what looked like rodent paradises at first quickly spiraled into out-of-control overcrowding, eventual population collapse and seemingly sinister behavior patterns.

how will people get by without a job

This mice experiment is "must read" for any serious person.

Elon says alot of speculative shite that may have no real basis in reality.

I'll echo the other two posters that said work already is optional.
If DOGE and the shutdown didn't already show us there are those on what amounts to UBI and happy to not work or contribute... well, I don't know what to tell you.

Elon Musk said that the goods and services available in the future of mankind will be almost free of cost.
Musk emphasized how people will have access to tens of billions of robots that will be made to help you with a service for ‘basically next to nothing.’
quote:
“Goods and services will become close to free. It's not as though people will be wanting in terms of goods and services. You have tens of billions of robots that will make you anything or provide any service you want for basically next to nothing,” said Musk in the interview.
Musk said that this move towards artificial intelligence and robots will, in turn, help humans have a higher standard of living, but the only concern for the people will be to acheive the emotion of fulfilment.
“It's not that people will have a lower standard of living, they'll actually have a much higher standard of living. The challenge will be fulfilment. How do you derive fulfilment and meaning in life?” Musk told Ted Cruz.

Elon is referring effect AI and robots will have on out lives in 15-20. In the AI arena, 15-20 years is a long arse time. I've heard him mention something similar in that time frame regarding AI/Robots will provide pretty much everything you need for day-to-day living.
There's not many that get my attention. Elon is one of the few.

The positive spin would be people could devote their time to doing what they like: creating art, gardening, hobbies, etc.
But the reality is that most people are stupid and will eat, drink, binge watch themselves to death.

Doesn't address the issue of resources. If work is what is supposed to fulfill me right now, and work is absent in the future, my fulfillment will come from hobbies that are in higher execution. Fishing for example. Fish will be overfished. Deer will be overhunted or there just won't be any huntable land. Lot of questions unanswered.
I could enjoy a life where a 40+ hour workweek isn't the standard. We've progressed so much as a society but the workweek has never been reconsidered. We spend the majority of 5 of the 7 days out of the week doing something for someone we care nothing about and they only demand more more more while trying to keep paying you less.
