I went to military school in VA. Strongly recommend it for a young man.

Great school and everyone I know that went there loves it. I visited and it is fun. You do have to love living on a mountain in the middle of nowhere and a small school experience.

had some friends and cousins that went there
A close family friend of my parents moved onto the campus after Katrina to work for the admin there. He purchased his home, but the property was leased by the University to him for $1/year. We went to visit a few times. It has to be one of the nicest places to live in that area.

My grandfather and uncle went to Woodbury forest. My grandpa you would never guess that, he is a typical rancher.
A buddy from high school went to Woodbury also but ended up transferring to my school because his grades weren’t good enough, I think. People definitely only send their kids there for the connections. He rushed a top fraternity at ole miss just cause some of the kids he met at Woodbury went there. His family is loaded and own a resort so he didn’t really need the connections for work lol.

If he is in his mid 20s he could be the guy that convinced my friend to go there lol
Edit: Idk why I thought it was spelled Woodbury lol. Mandela effect moment for me

Personally, I've never understood why you'd want to have someone else raise your child and miss a good part of their teenage formative years.
As someone who has lived this, I think that it actually strengthened my relationship with my parents. I lived at home during the summers but was gone Aug - May. They visited once per semester bc money was tight. I played sports so did not go home for holidays. We had to take advantage of the limited time we had together. Maybe it is just our family mindset but for us, it was a positive.
I know a guy that sends his kids to boarding school (because he went there), and ALSO sends them to summer camp for a month! WTF even have kids?
See you at Christmas, son, assuming Buffy and I get back from Aspen in time.

I agree that it is weird to send your kids to boarding school for the sole reason that you will never get to see them.
However, what if you are a big rancher or farmer in south/west texas or somewhere like the Mississippi delta? I can see why people don’t want to send their kids to the local school.

-Lyman Ward-
2 years there.
-I don’t think anyone there chose to go there.-
Yep, wasn’t by choice. I do have friends from all over the world now because of it though.

This was always my thinking as well.
Raising kids is hard work. Hard work is for the Help.

Guy from Loomis was actually pretty nice but had a very ostentatious wardrobe. Pink sweaters, loafers, madras shorts, etc. I think he knew a lot of people clowned his wardrobe but didn’t care.
We may know the same person.

I attended the Baird School. Home of such distinguished alumni as William Howard Taft, William Jennings Bryan, and William Tell.

My brother went to Culver with Hal Steinbrenner. The only Phillips academy person I know is my friend's dad who went to Andover with Jack Lemmon. That's all I got.

I know a very nice lady who went to Exeter. That’s all I got.

Had a co-worker who had her 2 children at Webb School in TN because her job required international travel. It was easy to have her mom stay when kids were young but not as teenagers.

I remember a couple of classmates from St. Paul's (the one in Covington) ditched and went to schools like that. The one I recall specifically was called Hotchkiss (the school, not the kid).
The only good reason to go to a place like that is to try and fall in with people who will help you with opportunities in later life. Other than the people there (and specifically their social pedigree), there's nothing so different about Hotchkiss or Exeter or whatever that's worth the Mercedes-tier price.
To me, it's difficult to imagine looking at a boy of 15 or 16 years old and feeling certain that he'd benefit from that. It's difficult for me to imagine my kid wanting that... when I was 15, I probably thought an "investment banker" was some schlub selling mutual funds at Legg Mason. Some people are just social climbers, though.

I agree.
It just seems your priorities are out of whack if look at your 8th grader and make a transactional decision but everyone is different.
