We were hoping this was the last year of the elf but my oldest plays along to make it more believable for the youngest.

Wait a couple days after the elf is supposed to have returned "home". Have him show back up with a knife in the middle of the night. When the kid flips out, hit the elf with a frying pan, put it in a garbage bag, and set it on fire.

Problem solved. Well, you may have nightmares to deal with for a while.

I drew mean eyebrows on the new elf and started leaving small, elf-sized messes. The kids noticed the mean eyebrows and freaked out. Much more scared of the unknown than anticipated.

I like ours, but its our first year. I'm too lazy to do creative things, he just moves each night. My son is about as creative as I am with names so named him Red.

My oldest is 9 and we got our elf about 5 or 6 years ago from my mom. It's kind of a pain to move him every night but the littler ones eat it up. It's a small thing to deal with and I'll miss it when they're older.

We’ve never done that - when my kids went to school the teachers had one so I went with the whole the elf only watches you at school thing

Now we homeschool and the little kids don’t know what it is

Time for your oldest to take over the duty.

My boys named their elf Jack.
See my last name in my profile name...

Yeah. I snorted out my drink when they said "Jack" when asked what they wanted to name him.

Yup. A win win usually. The older one feels more involved and it’s one thing less for you to have to remember.

You telling me you didn’t take the opportunity to do the 14 day quarantine in a mason jar because the elf had COVID??????

You wasted a prime opportunity to have 2 weeks off.

Not judging anyone else because everyone parents differently.

My son is 10, almost 11 and absolutely loves his elf, a lot more than I think he does Santa. We go all out each night to do something really fun and different with him.

I look at it as he has one time in his life to experience this magic then it’s gone forever so I’m all in for it. Not saying there’s never a night where I remember at night and I remember and begrudgingly have to think of something to do, but I do it for my son.

Actually knowing this may possibly be his last year believing it, elf stayed today instead of leaving last night like normal. Had a note that said he was able to stay till January 1st and he was allowed to touch and carry him around as long as he was careful.

Honestly that was bigger to him than all the gifts we got him for Christmas combined.

My 4 year old loves her elf. Definitely have those “frick!” moments when I’m in bed and remember, but its worth it to see her excitement every morning.

Put a little noose around his neck, hang him from the shelf and tell the kids the Elf is a 29-S.
