what others said on socket issues. I just went through this with a change from incandescent to LED. Couldn't get LED to work. Had to lift up the center contact in the socket to make sure the LED base made contact. Evidently there is a small difference in the base and if the contact is depressed even a little bit the LED base won't make good contact. I've bought maybe 3 dozen LED bulbs to start making the switch from incandescent bulbs. Only had one failure.

mood lighting bruh,
Makes a nice glow when shining into the bedroom and highlights the waterbed and orange shag carpet.

bought bulbs at home depot. Bulbs work in other sockets.
Wet your finger and stick it in the socket you think is defective.

If lifting the center contact doesn't work then look and make sure the fixture is wired correctly. Electricity will only travel through a diode in one direction and if it's reversed wiring it never will burn a LED bulb. A regular bulb dosen't care which way power flows.

Did they screw in all the way? The led bulbs look significantly larger

When I redid one of my bathrooms, I changed the light fixture over to LED. Dam thing has four 100 watt LED light bulbs and it's to much light.

Maybe the new bulbs aren't getting a good connection. Stuff aluminum foil into the socket then screw bulb in

Whatever happened here? I've been thinking about TigerGman's vanity for weeks. Is the damned thing fixed?

Why not just put in lower wattage bulbs???

Very rude and distasteful when the OP never gives an update to the problem he asked for help on. Its right up there with mentioning some fine puss and not posting pictures.

This could be a ballast compatibility issue? I've encounter this with some other types of bulbs in our building but not at home.

Given the OP's problems so far described its almost certainly the brass tab at the bottom of the socket need to be bent up to allow contact with base of bulb. A lot of these new led bulbs are made overseas in shithole countries that don't quite make them to spec.

That looks like the light strips on the side of a carnival ride

There is no ballast in a fixture like this, only in fluorescent .

Here's the correct answer:
Those old round bulbs are Globe bulbs and likely size G25, a regular bulb is size A19. I'm no bulb enthusiast I just own some cheap rental property with those bulbs. Those cheap vanity lights are made for Globe bulbs and some A19's don't fit, the width and threads on the bulbs are different. You may be "screwing" the A19 in there but it doesn't fit well enough to contact back of the fixture. Very similar to how bolts have different threads, some are close enough you can kinda get them to work but you are basically cross threading.
Best bet OP, is buy some LED's meant for G25 or whatever Globe size that fixture is for.
As said, you may be able to jury rig your light fixture to work by pulling out the contact or forcing your bulb in there better.

AC voltage does not pass through the diodes. There is a driver in the bulb that will convert AC to DC for the leds.
Reverse polarity is an issue in 12vdc auto circuits.
