I like the idea of getting the prisoners to work, but not sure I’m down with the “work one day and get two shaved off your sentence” angle. Allowing them to cut their sentence by fricking two-thirds seems like a bit much IMO. Working two days to cut off one seems more fair to me.

Don't worry, once we annex Saskatchewan we'll have plenty of room

But they have no drug issues, very little inamate on inmate crime and they credit it all to segregating gangsters and rehabilitating everyone else.

Now imagine if they would treat public schools like this. Stop letting the lowest of the low drag everyone else down.

The private prisons here will never let this happen.

They seem to give them pretty harsh sentences compared to here which plays into it.

Also, I'm guessing there are penalties for just showing up and not actually doing much.

Then why did our Secretary of State negotiate a deal to do just that? I’m sure we have some in Gitmo already.

I have only heard it said that Bukele offered to house US prisoners - not that Rubio asked or even accepted the offer. Have you seen differently?

Just drug them and induce a coma until they die. Better yet, figure out the matrix pods and come up with a way to get energy out of them. There is no point in just locking people up in a jail. Jail just becomes life. The taking away of freedom is only a punishment in the beginning. Once they assimilate to prison life, it’s just normal life to them again. If the point is to take them out of society to protect innocent citizens, then just drug them and put them to sleep.

I saw this documentary once where an island was turned into a prison. Some guy named Snake escaped from it so they had to close it down.

Prisons are education camps with "zero leisure". You sleep, eat and go to school or work and that's it.
I’ve always been of the opinion that this is what prisons should be. No languishing around for years and forming prison gangs. You’re in prison, your arse belongs to the state. The constitution says so. Prisoners should have their asses put to work to the point that they are too tired to commit acts of violence against each other. Hell, if Jeff Landry wants to go down as this great authoritarian leader in history that he so desperately wants to be, use our packed to the gills prisons as free labor to improve Louisiana for free through DOTD projects like a BR loop, new bridges, even flood rerouting projects or a Mississippi River diversion. It seems to fit right in with his style of governance.

Let the prisons keep a percentage of the profit of the goods they produce. There is always a way.

I’m impressed. That’s a model that should be used for the rest of the world

Would be nice if that’s how it worked with everything, following examples of places doing it right

Many US prisons already operate this way. Prisoners make furniture, textiles, etc.

I don’t think the prisoners could produce goods that would cover the cost of training and feeding and housing them. Maybe supplement it a little, but probably not worth it.

To get them to comply they lock them in isolation with a piss bucket and a water bucket in a room so dark you can't see your hands. Then they leave them there. The warden said that breaks every criminal.
