As for determining danger to self or others that is always a “point in time” determination. A person can be suicidal or homicidal be day and nit the next much less three months down the road. The converse is true. A person can not pose a threat today but become a threat later. Do we want mental status exams every day?

I agree and morality goes hand in hand with what’s getting these people to that point. One thing is for certain and guns are not to blame.
