Franklin Mountains are great for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, or just for their aesthetic value.
Food is decent, I prefer Sonoran style Mexican you find over in Tucson and New Mexican style Mexican you find across the border. They do have a lot of little mom and pop cantina / street food style places that are great and will never show up on anyone’s Instagram feed.
Surprisingly a fair amount of history, architecture, and culture if you are into that.
Proximity to the Gila, Ruidoso, and Guadalupe NP offer a lot for the outdoorsman. And Juarez is the kind of place where it is still safe to go over for a steak, some tequila, and a hooker and blow without having to drop a grand or get shot. Dirt cheap flights from CJS to Monterrey, Cancun, CDMX, PV, etc and reasonable flights anywhere in Central or South America via CDMX.
Biggest negative is traffic, I-10 has been under construction nonstop for 20 years. And sometimes the smog from the Juarez barrios floats over.

Juarez isn’t safe. The Mexican ladies at the hotel desk were saying no over and over about going there. The Sinaloa cartel pretty much runs the city so the turf wars are somewhat over but Juarez still has a terrible murder rate as well as kidnappings. If you are Mexican I can see going there as you blend in. I’m Cajun so I’m a little darker but not enough to blend in.
Totally agree though on the parks and food. Franklin mts were great to walk, Guadeloupe mts were scenic as well. Las Cruces and Sedilla are fun day trip stop overs.

El Paso is very underrated. Great food, friendly people, city is clean, it’s affordable.
You can still go into Juarez at least as far as the Kentucky Club without being bothered and that’s worth checking out.
The El Paso surrounding area is beautiful.

That's completely valid if you are into those things. Heat also shuts a lot of that down from May-September though. Was like 100 straight days over 100 there last year.
Yeah but it’s a dry heat lol.
Seriously though, the mountains starting as close as just north of Las Cruces offer a great break from the heat, with lots to do.

No its not, its one of the safest cities of its size in the world and the ninth safest of its size in the United States. It is perfectly safe to walk the streets of El Paso at night alone. It is a GREAT city....a long way from anything other than Juarez which is also a great city and a major one at that which can be a little dangerous if you are bent on getting into the drug trade....
There is one of the best cigar / top shelf whiskey bars in the nation at almost dead away center field from the Chihuahuas stadium...Vitolas Cigars and Whiskey. Decent not great humidor but fantastic selection of top end whiskey and a great environment to smoke a cigar and drink good brown water...

I saw a Mexican girl at a taco restaurant in middle of nowhereville Indiana. I would've eaten so many bullets from ICE for her. She looked like Jaci Velasquez in her prime.

Lord you done went and suggested someone could go to Juarez and survive....that's TD Blasphemy right there cause a majority of these frickers can't go to McDonalds in Covington without shitting their pants and needing a pistol to get them through the ordeal...

I grew up in the bayous of Lower Terrebonne Parish, and now live in the deserts of West Texas.
it's hot, don't get me wrong, but it's a much more tolerable heat than south Louisiana. despite the higher temps.

I want to go to that winery. It must be nice.

I would imagine when about 15 to 20% of your population is illegal your crime numbers would be pretty low. They aren't calling the cops unless it's a serous crime. Border town and safe just don't go together in my experience.

El Paso is a nice city, but I would rather live in Anthony, New Mexico.

El Paso has a low homicide rate. Like really low. A lot of the 98%+ Mexican towns in America have low homicide rates.
All the other stuff still exists.
