They’re all what This thread would call “hoods” but surely they vary to a degree.

What makes one more safe or dangerous than another? What demographic variants appear if any?

Know any history about the area? Let’s hear it!

I’m not here because I plan to buy real estate. I just like learning about our city. I enjoy looking at the old maps and how development occurred, and I’m intrigued with NBR for whatever reason.

I expect a number of silly replies, but surely the serious will be drawn out as well. (Police and fireman, property owners, and the award and educated) Thanks!

On your first map, I lived directly across FL Blvd. from "Mall City" (Texas Club). Google Evangeline Street, Mohican-Prescott, that's where the real fun goes down. I was raised in the 70805, we moved when I was 16, 1997. Went from being a blue-collar, Exxon, Redemptorist neighborhood to the ghetto.

You can’t talk about hoods in Baton Rouge without mentioning Dixie or Gus Young. Put some respect in your original post.

My mom lived in mall city in the 60s. She said it was fine then. Easy explanation though. These are all stories of culcha expansion.

Lots of rentals and blight in those areas. I would suspect a lot of them are Section 8 housing. People with no ownership stake don't take care or pride in their surroundings. If I was looking for a business opportunity, I would go with a rental rim and tire business, or a cell phone accessory store.

The bigger question I have is where did the black folks live when those were white neighborhoods?

My grand parents told me that basically once desegregation happened, it was the beginning of the downfall of any all public schools in the area.

They weren’t being racist, i just asked the same question before.

They said city park was such a great public place for kids with all sorts of athletic activities and even had a public pool that stayed packed with kids all summer long.

It didn’t take long and white folks just started leaving certain areas after all this
