I just like to post in every one of these threads, because I know the Mayors Office is reading them, that they had the chance to grant St. George their ISD and NONE OF THIS would have happened. But they thought they could bully the people and they were oh so wrong. Reap what you sow folks.
frick you, I'm an Ascension resident and want this to pass as much or more than StG residents. We need a buffer between us and BTR

And they signed a petition requesting to be annexed into the city along with a majority of property owners around them. The same with the property owners around the Mall of Louisiana and the casino.
They followed the law and were annexed.
SG is following the law now. Let’s see what happens Saturday. If the vote is yes, let’s see if all parties follow the law.
The last thing we need is for this situation to be drawn out for even more years which would only result in more division. The people would have spoken so let's start cooperating to make both Baton Rouge and St. George a better place.
Anything else would just be stupid.

The kids in NBR don't have much and their only hope is passionate good people fighting to get the school system right. By quitting, the StG leaders are abandoning them and any real hope for change. Eddie Rispone and Art Farve are supposedly good Christian men andd I'm surprised they would finance this type of abandonment.
Is this what Jesus would call us to do?
So, IYO, the StG residents should sacrifice their own children to save the children in NBR that don't want to be saved?

“All the politicians and whores will look up from the gutters and cry “Save me!”
And I’ll say “No!””

It isn’t as if the city of BR hasn’t been trying for decades.
Nothing changes.
And not only does nothing change, anyone who tries is only permitted to try in a certain way, resulting in no change.
Why should they keep trying?
The status quo isn’t working.

It would be nice....but we have already heard straight from the horse's mouth they will tie this up in court.

If the mayors office is reading then let’s ask the real questions.
Everytime Mayor Doome ask for a $350k study does she do the cabbage patch, while one of her many CAO’s known as leaches toss money at her?
Does her eyes light up and does she smile when someone mentions that the city parish needs another study?

No, she sits there quietly eating her catered Ruth’s Chris meal before getting into her leased Lincoln Aviator which is part of her compensation package.

None of those vocal, wealthy St George opponents would ever send their kids to public school anyway.
I think they've been pretty clear that they too don't like the status quo, but don't believe that splitting up the city is the answer. The message is that we'd make more progress overall if we work together.
Yea, but working together has not worked over the past 40 years.
Isn’t time to try something new?

Amen
And I think if SG loses, we need to try something else to get an ISD, I’d give up on the city.
Unlike the parish leadership, I don’t think you should call for another election when you lose.

I am sure it’s already been addressed, but this notion that SG is splitting up the city is so ignorant I can’t believe anyone would put their name to it. SG is not part of BR nor is BR even attempting to make it part of BR (and haven’t for a very long time).

Mr. 2 Tone thanks for finding that. It’s a key piece of “evidence” that shows two things.
One being in BR has certain advantages, and two BR couldn’t afford to expand and let others in on these advantages.
It also shows that Kip was a practical guy. He knew what was going on. The problem with that line of thinking was his staunch opposition to SG. He was more Machiavellian than most believed.
It also begs the question, why shouldn’t people in SG have access to better fire protection and other city services. Why should we be excluded?

Marcelle said she is working with the Parish Attorney’s Office to determine what is involved in expanding the city’s boundaries into certain unincorporated areas of the parish—specifically, Towne Center and Gardere. Marcelle says her proposal would be a way of increasing the city’s property tax revenues, since unincorporated areas are not subject to municipal taxes. But Holden says annexation would also mean the city is responsible for providing more services, which at this point is not practical, he says. “We have a top-rated fire district,” Holden says. “For us to provide free fire protection to Gardere would jeopardize that rating and would be cost prohibitive.” Holden says he will oppose any such effort, at least for now, adding that Marcelle “has to take a broader perspective of what is going on.” —Stephanie Riegel

This weekend, I was talking to a developer and real estate agent from Ascension Parish. She hopes St. George fails. She said that will automatically mean she will sell more homes.
Posted on 10/9/19 at 12:49 pm to doubleb
What's St. George's fire rating compared to BRFD?
Posted on 10/9/19 at 12:51 pm to LSUBoo
I think it’s a 2. BR is a 1.
Not positive though.
ETA- not everyone in proposed SG has SGFD service. Some I know have East Side.

I'm just saying: If I could only pick one to have top-rated, fire department comes AFTER schools and police.
