I understand

I voted for SG, but I’m in for life. Too old to move. My entire family is here. My business is here.

But I think it passes.

Luckily, what you think doesn't matter.

Neither does what anyone outside StG things of StG.

"SWB blatantly fricking over much of the parish in favor of NBR"

I don't have a horse in this race, I am interested in specific instances where SWB has engaged in "fricking over" the St George area. Please elaborate.

Too little, too late. The whole reason St. George is happening is because the St. George people tried the "work together" approach and were basically told to stfu.

How about the lack of funds towards drainage for one? I’d honestly be curious to see where the general fund goes.

It looks like the state will take care of EBR on that.

So living in BR has not gotten you to see the light yet? The Mayor, the Council, and all of the others that are dependent on St.George monies never gave it a thought before now? All you've heard in the past is NBR, NBR, etc.etc. BR made its bed with who they want to run it...have at it!

And by work together you mean doing whatever you say without opposition or compromise, right?

The thing is, StG is not "splitting up the city". They are forming a city out of previously unincorporated land. The city had 30 years to incorporate the area but refused. When they then refused to allow the area to have an ISD, the residents took matters into their own hands.

Now that we are a mere ~80ish hours until the fat cats in the city have to learn how to fend for themselves without outside money, they are freaking out. They want the tax money from the area but don't want to allow the residents any say in where it goes.

This. The 2 people who downvoted are the same liberals who cannot use logic for debate. What he typed is purely factual on the unincorporated areas. And yes, politicians in this city are sucking us dry. Have been...and always will. More roads projects to be completed when we are all senior citizens.

And today? The Women's Republican Club (or whatever) of BR heard from both sides (my mother in law was there). Some winch who was from some other organization not named Together BR insists that SG would raise taxes significantly because the facilities and services are far too expansive...yet SG proponents say 14 million budget surplus and the largest accounting firm in the deep south constructed their financial budget and long-term projections. Wbrz just reported on it also.

Which side is a humongous liar here? Surely in the red vs. A large surplus is not just coincidence?

I’m think the side that fighting hard to not lose money claiming we are one.

If we are one why are we not apart of the City of BR?

I think the TBR side is lying but they don’t think it is a lie because they believe it.

They are looking at things through the prism of what services BR provides, not what services StG would need to provide considering that StG would be using the sheriff’s office and paying for that right, would be using special fire districts to pay St George FD, using parish services they are already paying for, etc.

In short, they think the St George budget is a lie because it isn’t a disaster like the BR one which WILL be in deficit if St George pulls that money out of the general fund.

Fact of the matter is that Baton Rouge politicians are completely unable to live within their means. That’s what this is all about.

That's a stupid statement. That is exactly what is happening and everybody knows it.

You really might need to learn where the official city limits of Baton Rouge are. Its sad if you really believe the city is being split. Of all the reasons one might disagree with SG splitting Baton Rouge is completely without any merit.

The last thing we need is for this situation to be drawn out for even more years which would only result in more division. The people would have spoken so let's start cooperating to make both Baton Rouge and St. George a better place.

Anything else would just be stupid.

That's not likely to happen. Mary Olive Pierson has already said she has the lawsuit drawn up. St. George leaders have been meeting with the City-Parish Retirement Board to come to a settlement over the legacy debt, but the Mayor refuses to send anyone to the table for these negotiations. So they did it without her input.

WAFB - Metro council approves St. George pension debt measure

quote:

According to the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, the measure came up at the council’s meeting in August but was deferred at the request of St. George organizers, who had concerns about the proposal on the table.

Since then, attorneys for the proposed city and the city-parish retirement system, CPERS, had been meeting and appeared to have come up with a framework both sides can live with, according to the business report’s article.
