A doctor says this probably isn't true

quote:

Eddie Van Halen blames his metal guitar picks for developing mouth cancer, according to TMZ. He also theorized about the cause in a 2015 interview with Billboard.
Sources told TMZ that Van Halen has been traveling between the US and Germany to receive treatment for years.
Van Halen lost a third of his tongue due to mouth cancer in 2000, and is currently receiving treatment for cancerous cells in his throat.
However, Dr Tom Micklewright from Push Doctor told Insider that copper and zinc are not carcinogenic, and it was most likely Van Halen's heavy smoking that was to blame.
The small health impact of metals like cobalt, nickel, and lead are far outweighed by the "proven effect of tobacco smoke on a vast range of human cancers," he said.

Van Halen was diagnosed with mouth cancer in 2000, and had a third of his tongue removed as treatment. But some of the cancer cells have made their way down his throat, TMZ reported, so he has started new treatments to remove them.

This is why you shouldn’t take medical advice from celebrities

Great guitar player. Great.

Ive never met him, but from what I have gathered POS human being.

I have met Michael Anthony though, and he seemed like a genuinely good guy.

It’s the combination of heavy smoking and heavy drinking

Well yeah but some ppl would. Same goes for voting advice.

Celebs are entertainers and shouldn't try to be anything else.

interesting. I read their official bio (author Noel something I can't remember, great read would highly recommend) and by all accounts eddie seemed pretty cool Alex was a raging alcohol arsehole, dave was a narcissist that was mostly a turd but had a vulnerable side occasionally, and michael was a saint that ultimatley got crapped on. Never heard the bad stuff about eddie though.

There was once a story out there that Eddie thought he was "cured" of alcoholism after a protracted stay at Betty Ford. He celebrated by ordering some cases of champagne

He smoked 3 packs a day.

He doesn’t think that had anyone to do with it?

found your problem right there. Unless it is about how to do drugs, play a guitar or bang floozies, Eddie Van Halen is not one to take seriously.

So, in other words, he has the cheat code to life.

It's mostly in recent times it seems. Within the past 10-15 years maybe hes gotten that attitude old men get. Especially ones who have had the life, and have gotten their way over others for the past 40+ years.

But I think he even recently came out says things like Michael wasnt ever really good enough to be in his band and he had to show him, and teach him all the basslines, etc. Like he couldnt come up with his own or something like that. Seems like I remember seeing other people dispute him on it.
