Eliminating "punitive damages" would be a good start. They did that (and other things) in Texas a while back and now their auto insurance rates are half of ours.

I'll believe that when I see it. Again, there are too many republicans who are lawyers in the legislator that are tort lawyers.

But you also have a governors race going on in which the GOP candidate is touting tort reform. They may push it through the Legislature to force JBE’s hand to veto it so they can hang that around his neck in the election.
NIH is right, lowering the threshold won’t do much for rates. You’re also going to have to increase funding to the courts to facilitate the additional jury trials.
I’d like to see a little transparency from the insurance companies. We know what the national carriers make per year because they file it with the SEC, but I’d like to see the Department of Insurance mandate disclosure of profit/loss in Louisiana. I’d imagine most folks would be surprised to see those numbers.

Yeah we might get to see on the GOP side who is truly for tort reform.
I like the 2 year prescription idea personally. I truly run out of time a lot with 1 year and have to file.
One other idea: make not having insurance a steep penalty. Look at Texas. It's a crazy amount. I think the way they penalize you for a first offense is like $1k off the top between the various fine right then and additional fines later on your license renewal.

Yeah, I like this a lot. And I'm even good with lowering the threshold if you're going to give the courts the resources to have more jury trials.
I also would like to see a study on changing the offer of judgement to something like 15% instead of the current 25%. I don't know what kind of impact it would have, but it is a mechanism to save both time and expense for both parties.

Punitives are to disincentivize bad behavior. In Louisiana, you can get them for a drunk driver and for child porn. That's about it in a civil context.

Not unless they settle on one candidate and stand behind him. I think at some point Eddie Rispone is going to stand down and support Abraham.
Regardless if they split the vote JBE coasts to a second term.
