Not at my house. I seem to remember that they gerrymandered the hell out of that tax district in order to get it to pass, so I'm not sure where exactly the lines are.

I don't agree with giving this admin any more money. I also think some of our taxes should be cut in order to raise them, if this is so important. Like BREC, Libraries and COA.

I remember now. They did Gerrymander it to get it passed. They probably had the vote on a random Saturday too.

The only tax I would vote for is law enforcement. Everything else is a no vote.

I would vote for a lot of taxes if some would be lowered, allowed to expire etc. It is as if everything is important and taxes just go up and up and nothing is going to be cut.

When you do a budget for your business or family you don't just raise income.

Same. I'd vote to give BRPD a starting salary of $100k. Everyone else can eat shite.

But it was "racist" when St. George did the exact same thing. Typical BR.

It's inside the city limits of BR, Baker, and Zachary, not the whole of EBR Parish.

LINK:
quote:

Before putting the CATS tax on the ballot again, those backing the tax changed the boundaries of the taxing district. In other words, the parish wide electorate that defeated those two tax increases was whittled down to include only the city limits of Baton Rouge, Baker, and Zachary. Those in unincorporated areas or in Central (who were the most virulently anti-tax) were not included in the taxing district for the CATS tax.

So yes, it's kind of gerrymandered, but most of the CATS routes run inside the city so that's where they would get more of their support from.

Just curious what property taxes in EBR would be on a 200K home?

Probably around $1,100 due to the Homestead exemption you would get nearly half off your value.

I may be doing the math wrong, but I believe it would be around $1,200. Not a lot compared to Houston, but like someone mentioned earlier, our sales tax rates are already some of the highest in the country and we have state income tax on top of that.

Thank you. So around $1200. I know the property taxes in Houston are more but they have no state income tax. If you make $100K that's $3,500 getting back in your pocket each year.

In Houston, burbs of Houston, a 4 BR house around 200K would cost around $3,300 in property taxes depending on location.

But you have amazing schools as a result in Houston. The property tax and no state income tax is basically a wash when comparing LA to TX. Where people save the money is in cheaper electric bills due to deregulation, car insurance is 1/2, no tax on groceries, cheaper housing construction, cheaper house insurance, etc..

I do not mind paying taxes when you can see the benefit. I don't understand anyone wanting to pay taxes in Louisiana because they appear to go no where or in politicians and their crony's pockets.

It has to be unsustainable at this point. People will start moving away and stop moving here if taxes are high and benefit stays so low. The road tax is a joke. We won't see the benefit ever or if we do it'll be 20 years from now (like the Comite Diversion).

Strongly thinking of downsizing below the homestead exemption.

Or moving to a lower tax burdened Parish.

You'll have to move out of state to ever avoid being completely fricked.
