When the rain kept coming last August and sent East Baton Rouge Parish government workers into overdrive as they helped with the immediate responses to widespread flooding, only one city-parish agency paid its high-level managers for the overtime they worked.
An Advocate review of the overtime payments for Baton Rouge governmental and quasi-governmental entities during the floods shows that the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging is the sole agency to pay out overtime to high-ranking officials. Top brass from other agencies — including the fire chief, police chief and chief administrative officer — pulled extra duty during the floods, but none were compensated with overtime or extra leave time.

Amar stood to gain the most from the Council on Aging's disaster overtime policy change as she is the agency's highest-paid employee. She also received the most money in flood-related overtime between August 12 and September 16. Records of the flood overtime payments from the Council on Aging show Amar earned $6,741 in overtime for working an extra 139 hours. Her annual salary is $101,238.

So people are being compensated for hours worked over and above the job?
fricking unbelievable!!
Of all things this person has done, this is the least objectionable.

Administrative level public officials who are on a salary don't make overtime.

Okay, it's an NGO subject to audit by the LLA which operates off of dedicated tax dollars.

Compensated with my fricking tax dollars. She makes $100k a year already, she doesn't need to be pulling in overtime, and no other public official does

And I doubt she actually did anything.
You think she was riding in a mudboat picking people out their homes?

Would you be ok with increasing her pay to account for potential overtime?
Also, 100k seems pretty cheap. I wouldn't do that job for that. If I had to work 150+ hours without comp days or extra pay I would be pissed. No matter my regular compensation.

No way she should make that much.
Just my opinion.

In another thread it was noted they spent 16 hour days sandbagging homes of the elderly

Her in particular or the position?
Don't blind yourself by the hatred of her.
There are a lot more overpaid officials than the COA ceo

No. She is a salaried employee and should not be compensated for an overtime hourly rate. That is now how 99% of business and government operate. What makes her any different? Her skin color that's what.

I'm sure she gets bonuses and stock options like businesses
And comp days

She doesn't work for a "business." Well, she's not supposed to be...

And the city-parish government rules don't apply to COA overtime hours; granted I don't agree with rewriting the rules post-flood, but nothing seems to be illegal.
Plenty of businesses pay salary+ or salary and overtime. Or salary and bonuses. Especially for disaster relief response.
