This "pandemic" isn't getting enough attention. And it's not just Baton Rouge - it's all over the country. There were far more overdoses last year in EBR than murders - and that's a damn big problem too.

Battling record overdoses, Baton Rouge recruits business community: 'Can't do this work alone"

As opioid deaths continue to climb to record highs in East Baton Rouge Parish, leaders and recovery advocates are recruiting the business community to help battle the deadly drug.
The effort will start with a 12-month campaign to provide addiction recovery resources across the parish, paid for with a $100,000 donation from H&E Equipment Services Inc.
"There are people working every day who are overwhelmed trying to address this," company CEO Brad Barber said.
H&E hopes to bring additional businesses aboard the campaign, creating a coalition to expand resources for people struggling with addiction and to make lifesaving overdose-reversing medication, such as Narcan, more widely available.

The parish set a record in 2021 with 311 fatal overdoses, about 90% of which involved fentanyl, parish Coroner Dr. Beau Clark said.
"It's not looking good for the end of 2022," Clark said. "I have a feeling we're going to hit another record."
Clark's office has confirmed 159 fatal overdoses in 2022, leaving the parish on course to exceed 350 for the year, said Jon Daily, a grants manager in the parish District Attorney's Office who spearheads its efforts to address overdoses.
In 2012, only 28 people died of an overdose in the parish, according to Clark's office. The number of fatal overdoses steadily rose every year after that before skyrocketing during the pandemic.

Thank goodness weed is classified as more dangerous than fentanyl. Our federal government making total sense.

Im gonna guess 0 of those deaths were from toking fentanyl laced weed
It happens occasionally but these are heroin users or pill poppers

just had a cousin I havent seen in years die of fentanyl overdose. Albeit he has been in and out of prison his whole life for drug issues and stealing to fund his drug habit. Pretty sure he was popping pills again.

China is poisoning us by the thousands and our government isn't doing anything about it.

It's mixed in the cocaine up here. Every OD from fentanyl here was someone just trying a little booger sugar with friends, and the group dies. 2 here, 4 there, 3 the next weekend. Too many in the local news almost every weekend. These dealers mixing it in need to be found and executed. Business 101, don't kill your client base. They're knowingly killing people the second they decide to cut good coke with that shite. Terrible.

no time for this problem, monkeypox and COVID B-25 are running rampant through the AA community because they don’t have access to proper healthcare and live in food deserts. Also, more programs, we need them.

Meh. Getting rid of the stupid ones.

Seems like misdirected hostility. That's what you got.

I can control whether I overdose myself. I don't have quite as much control over the murders.

Here's a start.
Start fining people $5,000 for giving these bums money. They're the main reason these people are able to afford drugs.
