I was in Larado Texas 2 weeks ago and was surprised to see the massive amount of trucking coming through the border. Found out that Larado advertises themselves as the largest land based border crossing for containers in the US. With the east coast shutdown, more shipping will arrive through Larado , likely on a permanent basis

I don't know who you're talking to or working with. Top straight hour pay in the union is 39.
You went from doing research to talking and working.
Overtime 1.5 pay which increases hourly top pay to 59.
But those hours aren't guaranteed.

Just stop spouting misinformation that you claimed you researched.

Pay but also they want assurance that their jobs are protected from going automated.

…this will hasten their jobs being automated, might as well apply at Walmart on their way home, automated machines will operate 24/7/365.

The west coast union (iwlu) has already told our union they won’t accept ships that are being diverted from our ports on strike.

This is why unions can get fricked.

Just like the pilot guilds that hold each other’s balls when one holds the state hostage for more money, unions will find a way to put their stink on things even when not striking.

As another Poster above mentioned the unions are American workers, but the ships are all foreign owned. To support the foreign owned ships at this stage in the election process would be mighty risky.

It’s not the steamship lines causing the problem. It’s a deadlock between the longshoremen and the ports.

Trust me. Steamship lines want this resolved as they don’t make money when they aren’t turning containers over.

But yes, the ships are foreign flagged because flagging a vessel in the US is onerous and very expensive.

Time to find a third party company to come in and take over the ports to save Christmas and the elections.

So you’re entitled to their labor?

I work for one of the major shipping carriers. We were told about this a few weeks ago. I’ve been off the past week, but curious what I’ll be walking into tomorrow. I think they were working on diversions to the west coast ports, but obviously that takes time and will overload those as well.

You have to put in your time and move up the chain to get chosen for the good jobs.
They meet up at 6:00 AM and the Forman call out who they are taking for each area based on seniority. Some mornings, especially if there are no cruise ships in port, some people won’t get to work that day and will just go back home.
Yeah we all saw season 2 of The Wire.

Unions are feeling their oats nowadays. They are practicing fore even greater chaos should KAmala win.
