Europe & Germany don't seem to think manuals are outdated with their near 80%(?) take rate

I highly doubt it's 80%. DCT and CVT have been steadily gaining in Europe.

I'm lmao'ing at the dumbass notion that people prefer automatics due to laziness.

Which, ironically, is a lazy take

It used to be this ratio, manual to auto. In the last 10 years, it's really changed.

This thread is about America and OP is specifically shitting on american millennials.

Europe and shithole countries are irrelevant to this.

Not true Rent a car in Europe, they're nearly all manual

I mean, that kind of proves my point. You have to travel to Europe and rent a car to find a manual transmission.

My son is almost 11 years old. Will I ever be able to buy him a little Ford Ramger or Chevy S10 type pick up truck for him to drive? With cell phones & all that, there's no way I want my kids to drive an automatic.
Starting off with a 2 seat manual was good for me. You definitely have to pay more attention. Can’t play on your phone. Etc

I learned in a big ole U-Haul. I remember starting it and my aunt hollering, "I thought you didn't know how to drive a standard?"

I replied, "I don't".

By the time I got to Baton Rouge (from Shreveport)I did.

The articles I read were as late as 2018. I've seen manual rates as high as 85% as recently as 2011. It's dropped some ,but no crashed like the U.S. Manuals are are more "proven" athan "Outdated".

The main advantages of a manual transmission are emotional.

It’s fun to drive a fast car with a manual transmission. But there’s no need anymore.

I don’t know how to drive a manual. Never had one to learn. They’re not that common.

I learned to drive a manual when my mom parked the car full of groceries at the foot of our hilly driveway, and told me to get the car to the top before the ice cream melted.
My current truck is a 5 speed, and the next one will be too.
Manual xmission cars are their own anti-theft devices.

The drawback: you must own a stick shift to use to teach them to drive. Meaning... your car is fricked.

It amazes me that people can't drive a manual transmission. I still have a 2000 frontier 5 speed I keep at home for a work truck.

How does that amaze you? Serious question.

Not amazing at all. When I was a kid, everyone had a POS ‘83 model you could learn on. I don’t know anyone today with a manual. For that matter, no one has old cars anymore.

The only real way to learn is on city streets with your dad yelling at you.

My current vehicle is a 6 speed manual. The 4 vehicles I had before this one were all 5 speed manual transmissions. I recently counted back all the personal and company vehicles I've had and there were more manuals than automatics. Partially due to living overseas a lot but my first car was a manual and one of my favorite cars I owned was a manual 3 series BMW. When I bought my current vehicle I had to go into the garage at the dealership and pull it around front because nobody working there could drive a stick.
