Oh how I wish I had a manual transmission car.

I miss mine so much. I learned to initially drive one in HS, but it was my aunt’s car. She made me learn to drive it. I hated it at the time, but she used to say if you could drive a manual, you could drive anything. My parents bought me a automatic though.

But I bought a car with a stick shift later on in life and man that was a fun car to drive. Would love to get me another one some day.

Talk about an uphill climb. First, you gotta teach them how to drive

according to the ad, you have to currently own/lease a car with a stick shift and use it to teach

$50 a hour will get eaten up by the cost of new clutches.

frick.

They had a news segment last night... the best way to keep your car from getting stolen is to buy a manual. The thieves don't know how to work them.

Here's one partially caught on video.

From the article-

It isn't Florida, but close by in Alabama, four car thieves once again proved how the manual transmission is one of the best car theft deterrents there is. In a TV report from Alabama's FOX10 News, we're able to watch the theft failure on security camera footage.

Four men pull up to a Quick Stop in Semmes, Ala., in a black SUV, then notice a 1995 Honda Civic running, with the keys in the ignition, parked nearby with nobody around. (For the record, don't do this.) So, a couple of the men from the SUV hop into the Honda. Instead of peeling out in a cloud of dust and VTEC noises, the suspects puzzle over the alien concepts of a stick shift and clutch pedal, sitting around long enough for the owner to find them failing in their efforts to get away.

I drive a manual I purchased in 2016.

When getting some new tires, I had to drive it for them at discount tire . Nobody working there could drive a manual
I honestly bet you bought a manual just for moments like this so you could feel manly

50/hour?

Sign me the frick up. It's not hard at all.

Took me maybe 2 days to learn it when I was 17.

I was 12 and my dad stuck me in a 1980 gmc 2500 with a flatbed and diesel tank on it, stick shift, no AC, no brakes. Said “figure it out”

I mastered it by the end of the day.

It is amazing how many people cannot drive a manual

Yep just like people who can't use a rotary phone or an abacus. I mean can you believe these kids not being able to use outdated/rare things?

And he had to go out of his way to find it too. They really aren't that common nowadays.

Good luck even finding a car with a manual transmission nowadays.

My son is almost 11 years old. Will I ever be able to buy him a little Ford Ramger or Chevy S10 type pick up truck for him to drive? With cell phones & all that, there's no way I want my kids to drive an automatic.

Manual transmissions account for just 2 percent of all vehicles sold in 2018, according to data from Edmunds.com. In 2006, 47 percent of new models in the U.S. were offered with automatics and manuals. Now it’s down to 20 percent and dropping sharply.

Sure you don't want to walk that back?

This makes zero sense. You should've just walked it back.

Drastically ramping down production and barely selling it means it's outdated. It's pretty much a textbook example of something being outdated.

The world doesn't revolve around the US/ North America where the automatic is King.

Europe,Asia , Africa & most of Latin America I understand , that the Manual transmission rules.

I perused a few recent articles ( so someone correct me if I'm wrong ) & about 80% of cars in Europe are manual transmission? For all of the German engineering & technology the " outdated" Manual transmission is the choice of most Germans .

The thing I don't understand is that one can refuse to buy certain options / types of cars in the US : no 2 seaters,no coupes ,no front wheel drive , no cloth seats,etc........ with no problem. But the moment someone in the US says " no automatic transmission for me " all hell breaks loose .

Europe & Germany don't seem to think manuals are outdated with their near 80%(?) take rate.
