Have they had a program change? I've noticed
metal being mixed in lately especially late at night/early in the mornings.

I remember flipping stations a while back and they were playing Pearl Jam

I want to hear Def Leppard and Ozzy Osbourne, not Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cocaine

I heard Green Day on it the other day. I guess the 90s are classic now.

I'm annoyed with the Murphy Law Firm ads on my radio's screen, so I stopped listening to them.

Amen. I hate that with a passion. ESPN radio has them too.

No, it’s just that’s now old enough to be “classic rock.”

Still bothers me to hear Evenflow playing on 98.1 but Ten will be like 30 years old next year.

I've had to switch to XM's "Classic Vinyl" and "Deep Tracks" to get my fill of what I consider to be classic rock. The Outlaw Country channel is pretty damn good, too.

There are a handful of good FM stations around, since they aren't owned by Clearchannel. 95.7 The Ride out of WNC and 107.1 The Vault out of Montgomery are the best ones I've come across.

Classic Rock is a dying format.

Pink Floyd’s Darkside of the Moon came out in 1973.

If you were 22 in 1973, you’ll be 70 in 2021.

I don’t think those folks are consuming advertising anymore.

They had a good run, though.

when visiting someone a couple years ago I asked about radio stations with 80's and 90's music. He said thats the "oldies" radio station in his town.

Well, if he wanted to be able to do something about it, he shouldn't have let Courtney Love shoot him.

Classic rock is generally anything 20 years old or older. Twenty years ago we were on the verge of the year 2000 (Y2K). This is why it's not uncommon to hear Metallica, Bon Jovi, Counting Crows, Motely Crue, etc. alongside Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc.

What I have noticed lately though (I listen during the day at work) is they are starting to get into the deeper cuts of the more harder 80's rock (Judas Priest, for example). I that's a mistake as your goal in broadcasting is to hit as wide a group within your chosen genre as possible but there is a point of diminishing returns. People listen to Classic Rock stations for nostalgia, the farther you go out of chart-toppers, the fewer people you are appealing to.

For a broad-range classic rock station like 98, their best option to continue to draw in ratings is to stick with rock songs that made it into the Top 40 on the Pop charts (because Pop stations have a greater reach due to there being more of them and often having the bigger signal compared to pure rockers). Generally speaking, the Top 20 from the Rock charts will have hit the Top 40 on Pop (with a few exceptions).

Kurt Cocaine
I don't think Kurt was real big on cocaine. If he was, he might still be alive. His music would be a hell of a lot different. That's for sure.
