Dyson

quote:

(CNN) – Dyson may be known for vacuum cleaners and hand dryers, but the coronavirus has forced the company to shift its focus to ventilators.

Founder James Dyson designed a new one in just 10 days at the request of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The “CoVent” was designed for COVID-19 patients and can be manufactured quickly, which is key as demand rises fast.

Dyson said the new ventilator was designed to “address the specific needs” of coronavirus patients.

The company is manufacturing at least 15,000 of the medical devices – 10,000 for the British government, another 5,000 will be donated to the international pandemic effort.

A Dyson spokesperson said the ventilators should be ready by early April.

MyPillow shifting 75% of production to make face masks for hospitals

quote:

Minnesota-based company MyPillow is joining the effort to supply health care workers with the protective gear they need amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

CEO Mike Lindell says about 75% of MyPillow's production will now be making cotton face masks for health care workers. He says about 90% of the company's sewers will be working on the masks.

"We have capacity to make a lot of things at big rates and we’re going to be going hopefully from 10,000 units a day to 50,000 units a day in a very short period of time," said Lindell.

That’s a really good story! But ventilators in the UK don’t help the US.

Indeed.

In every trial, people step up.

It may be hard to see at the moment, but there will be sucess at the end of this.

Understood but we have American companies working on it too. Plus, you have to think that Dyson will ship here too if they have the capacity to make more.

I suspect he will allow his design to be copied and manufactured here.

If this mask isn't the softest, most comfortable mask you've ever tried, I'll give you your money back, guaranteed.

Order now and receive a second mask for half the cost of the first mask.

Great for the UK but I wonder what America has to do to get sufficient quantities of ventilators by early April?

The only thing I have specifically seen is the Ford project to make them but they said to expect those sometime in June?

There’s a company in Las Vegas that makes modular quiet meeting rooms/phone booths for open offices. They’ve redesigned their product to make an ICU/clean room compatible pod for hospitals to convert a traditional room into an ICU room.

Company in DFW I follow that makes high-end plastics for outdoor use (pergola tops, etc.) is making face guards.

This really is like war production during WWII... companies shifting their manufacturing to produce what the country needs, people making homemade masks, rationing.

I love mine. Had it for 5/6 years or so. Only had to stitch up two small holes in the seams.
