you would be surprised by the number of people who can't swim and their fear of open water.

Trump should hire the Chinese to build a great wall.

I've always thought it was a South Park episode concept come to life.

"We have a border security issue...let's build a giant wall like it's 1657!". Pump those billions of dollars into reinforcing/adding additional security at the border, using drones and modern technology to monitor both the border and areas of the coast where illegals frequent, and go ahead and legalize marijuana federally to cut some of the legs out from under the smugglers.

If Trump is so hellbent on having a Mexican border wall and think that will stop illegal immigrants, what stops those Mexicans from floating over via the Gulf or the Pacific?

It closes a massive entry point, which will inevitably stem the flow of illegal entry. No one said it will stop literally all illegal entry. Not only is it dumb to suggest that, it's at least equally as dumb to suggest that's what those who support the wall believe.

So, yea he's right. It will stop illegal immigrants. A lot of them, anyway.

I had an immigration professor in law school who had us do two or three days at the end of the semester (this was during the election cycle) discussing the border wall and why it wouldn't work. There was discussion about the Castle Doctrine, cost, property lines, and other means of entry. While I was a Bernie bro at the time and I didn't know how I felt about the border wall, the class discussion never convinced me that the wall couldn't work. It just...didn't really click. Now, I think I understand why. Because the wall will work to some degree or another. We spend more in a year fighting illegal immigration than estimated costs say it would take to build the dang thing.

Build it and watch it pay for itself over a short few years.

The wall isn't going to do anything. It will be a complete was of money. A lot of people sneak in through customs (truck drivers who are actually halling people, etc) and Trump has claimed it is needed to stop drugs from coming in.. That is the biggest line of bullshite. America is too valuable to the cortels to let a stupid fricking wall stop it. Plus, it gets in through other channels already.

What it comes down to is that the wall was a big part of his campaign. In fact, it is probably why he is president today. Bannon was the ONLY person who thought Trump had a serious chance to win the election and he had to make him understand that if he wanted a chance, he had to stick with illegal immigration and building a wall.. Because that was an issue that people would get passionate about and it was something that would get people, who didn't vote on a consistent basis, out to the polls.

The two major candidates have their base, there are the diehards who will vote for party no matter what. Presidential candidates have to appeal to votes in the middle. Hillary didn't really have anything that made the middle of the road people say "she is the better candidate because......".. Trump riled up a lot of ultra-conservatives who don't vote much and he did this by working people up about the wall. That is the only play that works for him.

He knows a wall isn't going to do a goddamn thing. People will find away to climb over it, go under it, break through it, etc, but some people think it's will solve all the illegal immigrant problems.

Also, those people who are getting into our country from the Mexico-US border makes up 17% of the US workforce. Some can argue that they are more valuable to the country than not.

All of these people who are passionate about this wall will look back 20 years from known and laugh at the fact they thought it was a good idea.

Let's be real. Texas hasn't bitched about border security before the 16 election. It's enacted some "measures" with football related names but it's all posturing. Texas can't sustain itself without Latin labor. Legal or illegal. If Abbott gave a real shite, he could arrest construction workers within a mile of the capital. He doesn't. He can't afford to.

The wall is a stunt, people. It's a political stunt just as much as any minority program the Left trots out for voices and votes.

It amazes me how so many people just don't get it, or are purposefully obtuse.

The wall will not stop 100% of individuals. Nothing is perfect. But it will make it harder.

HOWEVER, the most important aspect is it will DRASTICALLY reduce the ability to bring large amounts of drugs and guns in to the country.

So one person manages to climb the wall..... how many guns is he holding??? How many pounds of cocaine?

The answer -- A LOT LESS then without the wall.

Another factor , a humane factor. Do liberals even care about the harsh conditions that illegals deal with trying to get smuggled in to this country? Do they know that the smugglers will just leave 20 locked in a trunk to die before they get caught? The smugglers often rape the women on the journey. How many dead immigrant bodies are found yearly due to attempted illegal entry?? The wall will reduce this as well.

I just want to hear one GOOD REASON for no wall. $5 Billion is truly nothing to our government. Far more is wasted by illegals on the dole every year. That is going to continue to rise as well.

Cost is not a good reason. What is a good reason for no wall? I really just want to hear one.

The new talking point -- no Canadian wall.... frick right off. How many countries above Canada are known for producing cocaine? How many South of Mexico?

No one talks about this because it doesn't get people worked up, but infastruction in this country sucks. Bridges, roads, etc are taking on traffic they were not designed to take.

That needs to be a major focus and I would rather see $5B be split throughout states to help fund areas that really need infrastructure improvements.

Certainly it helped. Trump really won because of the DNC, SJW's, and the general culture war. The wall is just part of the counterculture.

A wall might not be the answer. At least it IS an answer, as opposed to the DNC's apparent fascination with open borders, distancing from national interests, etc., at least from the average citizen's perspective.

Wow, what a gotcha.

One problem at a time mate. Once the wall is up, that will free up the resources needed to stop the visa overstays. We can also just simply change the policy.

It is just not that hard.

Why do you NOT want a wall. So you think it is stupid, or a waste of money, so what. Why do you NOT want a wall. Why do you ACTIVELY oppose the wall.

I am certain there are literally HUNDREDS of things our gov. wastes money on that you do not agree with, and yet I am equally certain that you simply don't care enough to actively oppose them.

So why then, the wall? Is it just because you are told to? Or do you have a legitimate reason to be so strongly opposed?

The majority of drugs are smuggled by vehicles entering the US modified to conceal the drugs. The wall ain't stopping that. And over 200 tunnels have been found over the years linked to drug smuggling. Also, as the access to drones has become easier there are more and more incidents of air dropping drugs because they can do it without having to worry about being crammed in some rickety plane packed with kilos of coke and a stoned pilot.

It's not some dude with a mule and tote sacks crossing the border.

Will it though? Or will those resources be shifted to maintaining the hundreds and hundreds of miles of wall along with arming it with the security that is necessarily to make it an effective tool?

There's already a GoFundMe to buy ladders for the wall.

They'll make it over.
