I’m not sure of the est total cost of this thing but let’s just say it’s projected to be $10B.

I am confident that there is a more efficient use of $10B that can be geared towards the same goal.

Immigration obviously needs the rehaul somewhere and I’m fully behind Trump on that initiative. With that said, I can guarantee you people will find a way around a wall and we will look back on it as an inefficient use of money if it gets built in its entirety.

Let's presume for this argument that The Wall will actually work and be effective at keeping people OUT. Would it not also be equally effective at keeping people IN? The IRS already has procedure in place to revoke US citizens' visa status in cases of past due taxes: IRS Website

Remember when the Obama Admin weaponized the IRS to attack Tea Party groups? Is it such a stretch to think that another, less favorable admin could then use The Wall and the IRS to prevent people from fleeing Bernie Sanders style income taxes? And before you mention that people could easily escape by plane or boat, I'd also like to remind you of the TSA and their role in travel.

The Wall is BS. What we really need is comprehensive immigration reform making it easier for people to come here to work. We need to end the War on Drugs which turns those Central American countries into war zones controlled by gangs and drug lords. We need to eliminate social welfare programs that prop up those that are unwilling to work. Do those things and illegal immigration goes away and it doesn't cost me a dime.

National Guard and Border Patrol should be able to shoot anyone on site they see trying to cross the wall....

Then maybe that would reduce the number of people coming across.

Yes. They should be able to pop a bullet into a 5 year old child's head.

Why does anyone believe our government can build a 2000 mile long wall for $5 billion?

You're so macho and cool.

That's part of my issue as well. I fully expect a project of this magnitude to turn into a quagmire knowing our government.

And it doesn't matter if it costs $100 billion because those staunchly in support of it will keep talking about how it'll pay for itself in time, so not an eye will be batted regardless of cost. They basically have a blank check.

The same people that think that Mexico is going to pay for it. Morons. If the gov't has a $5B estimate on a project, you can multiply that by 4x to come close to the actual cost.

There's no border wall where you hunt?

You mean, all this time Texas hasn't fixed that problem? In decades??

Why can’t we just build a wall in the areas closest to Mexico population areas where they are most likely to try and cross? I’m sure there are areas for hundreds of miles at a time where none of them really try to cross due to natural barriers and no roads of any kind to get anywhere close

Because no one has said that, unless they were intentionally lying. The total estimate is around $25-30 billion.

ETA: I'm shocked that several of you are parroting this bullshite, shocked I tell you.

That's a more reasonable solution but I don't think that's the vision that many of the gung-ho supporters have on it. We already have 580 miles of barriers in place along the border what have not helped the issue. I'm not sure why a slightly taller barrier in the same areas would improve that situation very much.

I think that idea came from the $5 billion in funding that Trump requested. Trump recently said he expected it to cost as little as $15 billion total or possibly even less.

"Maybe a rope."

-Donald Trump thinking out loud the fatal flaw to his wall. Yes, he really said this on video at a public speaking engagement.
