i assume you're trolling

this is an issue w/ mach Es and all that shite is controlled electronically and all shuts off when this happens and the driver can't do a damn thing to help himself except maybe try to break the window and jump out at 50mph

you think he wanted to tbone a car or not stop?

introduce some sort of legislation requiring automobile manufacturers to install an "emergency engine off" button in cars equipped with a self-driving feature.
There are people in this world pushing for self-driving trucks. Now imagine this happening with a fuel tanker or anhydrous ammonia and the resulting explosion...

So you can't take it out of gear?

Nor turn the key to off?

Or tell it to go take a nap?

Obviously this is not La as he would’ve high centered and been stopped by all the miscellaneous tire treads and concrete chunks and scrap iron and other shite along the road shoulder.

Don't care.

But, putting a Corvette emblem on an EV is Blasphemy as well.

No steering, no brakes? Who in their right mind would buy a Ford car anyway.

I've started seeing the mirror-less trucks going around and am just waiting until the first accidents come from the screens going dark when a driver is in traffic and can't see around the truck. Going to be a funny day.

Seriously, though, wtf was that driver thinking not doing anything to stop the vehicle?

My thought as well. I can only hope he had tried manually steering it and just gave up when he couldn't force it to behave.

Otherwise, it would mean he was just sitting there like a moron hoping the failing controls would magically un-fail without him having to do anything.

based on the driver waiving and indicating all was well, I dont think there was a car failure. Maybe the driver was like, "eff this piece of shite" and was grinding it out of anger and the accident at the end was completely unintentional.

You're telling me Ford was stupid enough to design a car that can't be switched to manual drive on demand?

I like you Cad, but wut?

There are manual failsafes built into these cars that allow for someone to control it when something like this happens.

That dude probably never read his owner's manual, or cared enough to learn about the car's emergency controls.

It's like the stories of anti-EV people asking about getting trapped in a Tesla because you can't open the doors on an electric vehicle, completely disregarding that there are manual releases that do just that.

On average, large trucks are involved in 150,000 collisions each year. Overall, the truck bore the blame for just over 55% of collisions with other vehicles. Of these, truck driver mistakes caused about 87% of crashes, truck or trailer issues accounted for 10%, and environmental conditions accounted for 3%. Over 150,000 people were injured in these collisions. Approximately 5000 are killed.

Automation and robotics lower errors…period. I guess if there was a thread every time a big rig killed someone then maybe you’d change your view. One viral self driving vehicle video doesn’t negate the other collisions caused by non self driving vehicles that kill 40,000+ every single year…120 people every day.

Personally I've always been reticent to accept the idea that self-driving cars are the future exactly for the reasons displayed in the video.
Ride in a Waymo, it's a bit unnerving and definitely a preview of the dystopian hellscape of automated everything.

The videos of Waymo cars causing problems are nearly endles on YouTube. We are nowhere near the point of it being implemented en masse, and there definitely has to be a reliable dead man's switch in these cars where the human being can take control, preferably mechanical.
