I drive through the Memphis hood to get to Tunica and it looks like a third world country.

For some odd reason, I’ve been getting on google street view and walking through Compton, Detroit, etc. it doesn’t seem so bad behind a computer.

A lot of the hoods in California don't look too bad.

Lol that was the first thing I though about when I read Collard Greens. But I will say some of the best places to eat are in the worst neighborhoods.

It's like a ghetto safari.

don’t recognize any of those areas... that’s probably a good thing

It amazes me that there are large pockets of Birmingham that are completely foreign to me. Different feel, look, architecture, restaurants, shops, style of strip malls, people, politics, everything. Like segregation is still a normal thing. I’ve been here almost twenty years and figured I knew all of this town well but really it’s only a bubble.

Looks like it’s probably early in the am. Let’s see him drive through there just before dark on a Friday/Saturday night.

You brought up racism (or race at all) first in this thread.

Just saying.

Riiiiight!!! A thread about 'hoods' has no chance of involving race. Thanks for your input.

When I was at Tulane in the 90s, I was always reading about murders in particular areas so I decided to try and check out a few spots.

Got scared shitless when I got stuck at a dead-end in the St. Thomas. There were tons of people just standing around all of a sudden.

I tried to drive to Desire and also down Chef Menteur.

Never made it close to Desire and aborted the drive down Chef before I got far.

Got too nervous with the surroundings
