Things like this are going to allow idiot Sessions to resume Teh WAR on Drugs. Sad, really.
quote:
For the first time, statistics show that drivers killed in crashes are more likely to be on drugs than drunk. Forty-three percent of drivers tested in fatal crashes in 2015 had used a legal or illegal drug, eclipsing the 37 percent who tested above the legal limit for alcohol, according to a report released Wednesday by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) and the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility. Of the drivers who tested positive for drugs, more than a third had used marijuana and more than 9 percent had taken amphetamines.
quote:
Attorney General Jeff Sessions has promised to reinvigorate the war on drugs, reversing an Obama administration policy that reduced prison sentences for nonviolent drug offenders. Although the liberalization of marijuana laws and increase in drug-use fatalities might lead to an easy conclusion, the report cites European studies that found marijuana use slightly increased the risk of a crash, while opioids, amphetamines and mixing alcohol with drugs greatly increased the risk of a crash. Counterbalancing that assessment of crash risk is this stark statistic: In Colorado, marijuana-related traffic deaths increased by 48 percent after the state legalized recreational use of the drug.
Things like this are going to allow idiot Sessions to resume Teh WAR on Drugs. Sad, really.

That's the biggest problem with testing for drugs they don't have a way to accurately see if that person is impaired or if it's just in their system. Most drugs stay in your system up to three days and marijuana up to 30.
Alcohol only 24 hours and they have a legitimate way to see toxicity levels.

That's what I was wondering. I didn't know if they came up with a accurate test for current impairment yet. I've also wondered about prescription drugs. Lets say someone took their morning adderall and drove to work. Would they then be guilty of driving under the influence of amphetamines?? Even if the only took their proper dose?

It never ended but more and more propaganda will come out like this. Because like the NO DA said they will find the weed buy the weed and smoke the weed.

I'd love to see the stats here.
Is this a case of DWI's dropping to the point where drugged driving is now more dangerous, or has drugged driving actually increased?

This X 1000.
This is propaganda.
Nothing to see here.

Positive drug tests don't equate to impairment at the time of the accident. Sessions can suck it.

Did you fully read the OP?
Part of legalization should be setting concentration levels of intoxicants and development of accurate testing, as is done with alcohol.

They haven't and it's the only issue I have with full legalization right now. I work in the petrochem industry and lives are at stake out here everyday. God forbid a Crane Operator comes in messed up on a day he has a big lift.
But on the reverse end if he toked up on a Friday and then the crane malfunctions on a Monday that same guy looses his job and could be help liable for injuries to co-workers because it's in his system. I know they are working on better ways to test and are close but nothing definitive yet.

Worse then that, I've had marijuana stay in my system for between 4-5 months before I was below the 5 ppm threshold. Yes, it took over 4 months without smoking before I finally passed a piss test.

Blood levels?
If you overdosed on whatever they would find your blood level of about any drug known. The main ones we are talking about.
I assume weed will be zero tolerance. But what blood concentration shows that you've not smoked recently or that day or that hour?
Same for hillbilly heroin and VICOSOMAX. Purple drink.
There are definitely blood levels that can be obtained. Just going to be costly and parameters have to be set for "impairment" levels. When are you high as balls or did you just leave a party where you went one round of puff puff pass? What level shows that you took a Vicodin (maybe legitimately) earlier that day but aren't impaired 8-10-12 hours later?
It all sounds costly and like a lot of work and politics.

No. The SAD part are the stupid people driving while under the influence and killing people.
You know, that is really the SAD part. People dying because some pot heads can't control themselves.

Cost benefit analysis of increase tax revenue from pot versus loss future tax revenue from lost citizens, related cost, time off for family members, etc.
For the record, I say legalize it ALL but throw the book at people who, by their irresponsible actions, kill other people

4 months? You must be fat as hell

I just deposed a 75 year old woman involved in a traffic fatality, they drew blood and she popped hot for 5 out of 12 drugs tested for, Xanax, Hydrocodone etc.
All legal and prescribed by different doctors, no one (doctor/pharmacist) ever discussed the combination she was taking and driving.
So you have a 75 year old zombie out there in a Suburban and its all legal. Buckle up!

Big pharma and the beer lobby. It's what we are as a country. Politicians bought and sold by special interests.

I was about 25- 30 lbs overweight, but not fat as hell. I was still able to get laid without going hawging. But I smoked about 7-10 grams of good weed a week. Which in reality, isn't shite compared to what I was consuming in Colorado. 28 days is only for skinny occasional smokers. Even a skinny regular smoker will stay dirty for 2 months.
