Drug Prices (Pharmaceutical)

Lately, I've had a habit of looking up the retail prices of all the drugs that are advertised on TV. I became interested after my own experience with a steroid cream I need for a case of eczema. This drug was about $20/60g tube about 6-7 years ago. I've been quoted prices as high as $600 for a 100g tube, but it seems to be about $250 now with a coupon. Price fluctuates. I decided to see what other highly advertised drugs cost. It is insane. Absolutely insane.
1.)Neulasta, post chemo drug, 1 syringe .6ml, $7400
2.)Dupixent, eczema, 2 syringes 150ml, $3275
3.)Humira, rheumatic and psoriatic arthritis among others, 2 pens .8ml, $5532
4.)Otezla, plaque psoriasis, $3360
5.)Nuedexta, pseudo bulbar affect, 60 capsules, $1335
6.)Tresiba, diabetes, 5 pens, $589
7.)Latuda, bipolar disorder, 30 tablets, $1500
8.)Taltz, plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, 1 autoinjector 80ml, $6022
9.)Tremfya, plaque psoriasas, 1 syringe 100ml, $12,906
There are many more, but I can't think of them right now. There are a lot of drugs that are $10+/pill, resulting in a $400-500 bill for a month's supply or more, but they pale in comparison to some of these prices.

You know how much money it costs to research and develop these drugs? The cost isn't in producing them, it's figuring out how to produce them. The alternative is for them not to exist because they aren't economically feasible.

You could just, you know, not live as long.

A lot of those drugs are made for a very very small niche of the population so they have to jack up the price in order to not only recoup their expenses for marketing/ trials/research and also for profit as well.

I only troll people who are willfully ignorant.
Or LNCHBOX

The cost to get one FDA approved drug on the market is over a billion dollars.
Think about that... If it cost you $1,000,000,000 to make a product, how much would you sell it for?

The Orphan Drug Act helps pay for the development of drugs that treat rare conditions. I think 200,000 people or less.

A lot of those costs are funded by taxpayer dollars in the form of research grants.

One of the biggest markets of them all is diabetes.
A 5-pack of Novalog flex pens (about a months worth of fast acting insulin) is nearly $1300. And most people have that paired with a longer acting insulin such as Lantus or similar (also in the 5-pk of pens at a similar price).

Duexis $3000 a year.
It’s ibuprofen + Pepcid.
How much was the research on putting 2 drugs in 1pill?
It’s complete bs.
We are the worlds largest economy, we should get the best prices. (Economy of scale? Isn’t Walmart cheaper than most because they buy/sell more?)
Finally, the drug company gives a voucher to the buyer that covers their deductible.
1st month 2500.00 payed by pharmaceutical company (costs them <5$)
2nd month- same.
3rd month- insurance covers the cost. Big Pharmaceutical get well over 1500$ profit per month for 9 more months.
Why is healthcare so expensive?

I'm sure it wasn't as easy as just 1 + 1 equals two. And profits today as fuel research for tomorrow. Can some costs be cut, I'm sure they can, but it's not some scam either.

I read contracts every week that different entities have with pharmaceutical manufacturers (mostly PBMs, GPOs, wholesalers, retail pharmacies, Kaiser, etc.) and it's amazing how much they pay if there's little competition for a particular treatment.
Fun fact: The Big 4 government customers, which are VA, DoD, Coast Guard, and the Public Health Service, get on average at least a ~40% discount on covered drugs (patented, expensive, sole source, etc.) and the discount can be higher if there are bigger commercial discounts out there that are available to customers that are similar in size to the government (the FSS, or Federal Supply Schedule program).
I recognize some of the names on your list but I can't comment on any of them.
