She’s already some frat boy’s play toy. How do you emotionally handle those tough realities?

My daughter is a biochem major too. I bet they will have some classes together. Her roommate is an interior design major and only has class 3 days a week and my kid has it everyday

When registering for classes from the schedule booklet just google the professor name and rate my professor and their ratings should pop right up. It will help your kid avoid bad professors especially for 1000 and 2000 level courses. It doesn't work that well for upper level courses because there is usually only one or two classes.

My niece who is a junior at Kingwood High in Houston informed me that she intends to be a tiger. If she follows through I will be a proud uncle.

Congrats, baw. Some tips for your biochem/STEM major kid:
-Get involved in a research project early. He'll be there for 3-4 years, so it'll give him enough time to publish something meaningful. Getting involved is as simple as sending an email or dropping by a professor's office hours. Telling them you're committed for the next 3-4 years will help open some doors.
-The nice part about bio/microbio/biochem/chem at LSU is that it rewards motivated and assertive students.
-I don't know how registering for classes works nowadays, but it was an absolute nightmare during my time. KNOW EXACTLY WHICH CLASSES/WITH WHAT PROFESSORS YOU WANT TO REGISTER FOR and REGISTER FOR THEM THE MINUTE YOU'RE ALLOWED TO DO SO.
-The above may be obsolete nowadays, but still stresses the importance early scheduling. Better teachers = better experience.
-Have a backup plan in case those classes are full; don't rely on counselors to make the best decisions for you.
-If possible, knock out some easy accelerated 2-4 week humanities/literature electives during the intercession months.
-Also stack up on 3-hour once a week non-science electives. Those 6pm-9pm classes really freed up my schedule to study for o-chem, biochem, etc.
-Personally, I loved taking harder classes during the Summer. Yes, it's accelerated/shorter semester, but I was less likely to forget things since there was a test almost every other week.
-Graduate assistants/TAs are your best friends and allies during undergrad. Great source of help with tougher classes and labs.
God knows how much I loved it at LSU. I wish nothing but the best for you kid, baw. He's going to make you proud.
