So your insurance totaled your car and you retained ownership?

A girl hit the back of my car.
An adjuster from her insurance declared it total. Bought new car on 2/4.

Insurance settlement drags on and on and on. Got a new insurance company in late March (unrelated). Did not insured the totaled car under new policy.

Finally got paid from girl’s insurance in July, sell car to pull a part, they give me cash and take the plate and tow the car out of the backyard.

I had no idea that I was supposed to cover the totaled car with my new policy and insurance agent. So it was it was immobile and uninsured from 3/28/23 until I sold it on 7/15/23.

Your license has been expired sinxe December and youre just trying to renew it now?
First tried in February and took me three months to schedule an appointment. That was the soonest availability.

Just tell DMV you did it online and they must have a record of it. The DMV is so screwed up they may just honor it.

You'll never get out of that fine. Might as well pay it and be pissed.

It's funny this thread popped up today. I got home from work, checked the mail and there was a letter from the dmv to my wife. It says she has an unpaid speeding ticket from January and she has 30 days to take care of it, show proof from the court, and pay $100 to the dmv or her license will be suspended. I asked her wtf is this shite? She says, omg I forgot all about that ticket! M'fer!!! And this is a 50 year old woman I've been married to for 27 years! No telling what that's gonna cost.

UNLESS...you just happen to have a forged paper temp tag ! OMV and police seem to be powerless against these mensa criminals...lol How about a FEDERAL law calling for immediate confiscation of an untitled/unregistered/uninsured vehicle !

We've been gone from Louisiana for not enough years. I still hate the OMV for the hours I spent standing in lines, year after year. (Almost as much as New Orleans city hall, Entergy and the S&WB.)

I told my kids when they started driving just like my mom told me. Maybe your parent's failed you or maybe they don't like you.

Well, my dad died 2-3 years ago after an extremely strained relationship, so yes.
We’ve also had two kids in the last two years so the sacred motor vehicle laws of this precious state have taken a back seat.

If it makes you feel any better, that 700 dollars will help support a single mom of 5 by paying for her EBT

So, the poor person has to find a ride to the OMV to turn in the plate
You can cancel a registration / license plate on the DMV’s website without having to turn in the actual plate. Takes 30 seconds.

Thank our previous retarded governor John Bel Edwards who quadrupled DMV penalties under his tenure.

This is true if you transfer/ sell a vehicle.

But I am almost certain if you retain the vehicle and want to drop insurance/reg you have to fill out a non-use form.

But he's a homegrown boy!
LOL

Texas told me to draw a giant X over the old plates and recycle them or just give them back to the tax office. No fines threatened.

Louisiana OMV is one small step above a kindergarten class. They have got to be the lowest form of government employees in the country, and given Louisiana’s ranking in every category imaginable, I can say that without any sarcasm at all.

And they don’t give a single frick.

I'm "starting" my fight with the DMV currently. They have a policy that is in clear violation of both state AND federal law.

I went to the DMV in Baton Rouge and figured it would get straightened out there. I printed a copy of their policy and both the state and federal law they are clearly violating. She said "that's not what it says". Then I asked her whom else I could that to about it. She said "nobody, you can just leave."

I asked for her managers name and she didn't want to give me her last name (but eventually did). She wouldn't give me her email address but I figured it out and emailed them for some assistance. So far, I've received no response and don't expect to. At that point, things will get interesting.

The issue, my son doesn't have a social security number. The manager said "that's impossible, he has to have one. He can't do anything without it."

For the record, there is no law requiring you to sign up for social security. It's a shockingly bad investment. Yes, my son has a passport and has been to public school and everything without a social security number. You simply aren't required to have it despite what everyone believes.
