Went to a local brew pub this evening - crowded, found a place at the bar, exchanged a few words with the couple to my right and a few words with a couple of dudes to my left but for the most parts drank my ale by myself and got my buzz with just sports center on the tv over the bar. I'm going through a divorce so no partner with me, my drinking buddy doing something with his wife, so I just drank alone. Have an ex-gf seems to want to hook up again, but I'm not interested.
Been to this pub by myself the past few weeks - am I developing a problem?

If you have a problem, I've had it for 10 years.

If you read this in just the right way, it sounds like a hard-boiled private investigator from a film noir book or movie.

I wouldn't say you have a problem. You just need a happy place right now. The fact that you're self-aware enough to ask the question bodes well for you. Keep your head up, and good luck getting through this stage of your life.

No. Quit worrying. I'm three drinks into my nightly bourbon. Just me and the dogs watching the purple martins fly. I drink alone every night, and I have no priblem. It's peaceful and relaxing.

Make a visit to a few pubs. You will find some new drinking buddies.

Read this post as I sit alone in a bar drinking. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Remember that it's only a problem if you get arrested tonight, accidentally sleep with a dude you thought was a chick or don't make it to work on time tomorrow. At least that is my standard.

I'm assuming you're talking about the drinking part (not the being alone part).

That depends. If your drinking is preventing you to function as you would like to then by the strictest definition of problem - sure. Unhealthy? Doesn't sound like it.

Seems like you have good insight into your situation. Just check in with yourself frequently

in and of itself, I see no problem with what you are doing...now, if it gets out of hand or starts causing problems in your life and you don't curtail it, then there will certainly be problems. for instance, if you are driving home drunk from the bar every night, eventually that is gonna cause you a hell of a lot of grief and I would consider that to be a problem.

Nothing wrong with going to a bar for a few drinks. I'd be more concerned if you were sitting at home alone drinking. At the bar, you're out with other folks relaxing after work.

No problem here, I find myself doing this more and more as friends slowly succumb to the married with children lifestyle. You'll slowly meet people and it will feel normal soon, until then staying home by yourself is not helping anything.
