In my single days, I hooked up with more chicks going out alone, sitting at the bar, in a nice restaurant type setting. Even just a dive bar, but unless you’re a complete weirdo, the bar at a nice steakhouse is easy pickings.

A good bartender will give you milk then tell you about his old lady and send you home.

Are you an old man sitting next to Billy Joel making love to your tonic and gin?

That’s the risk you run, however.
I’ve had some pretty awesome encounters with genuine people, but there are those times…. I’ll end up sitting next to someone who just wants to hear themself talk about stupid shite while you don’t get a word in…. “CHECK PLEASE!”

I know a bar poet…come to think of it i haven’t noticed him in a while, need to check on him.

But this guy was an amazing spoken word poet. His delivery impeccable. When his local bar closed down I think it really did a number on him

I don't know what it is, but it's always been this way for me: I am a weirdo magnet. Pick the most whacko person in the place, I guarantee they'll plop down next to me and start telling me crazy shite I don't want to hear. It's not just at bars either, every time I go to concerts alone, which is almost always, I'll run into some nutjob that has to talk to me.

Damn, that sucks.

I venture out alone a good bit, but more often than not, I'm at one of my usual spots so it's easy to kinda turn invisible. Still, plenty of weirdos have found their way to me, so I get it.

It got to a point where I disliked going out for a few drinks because I did not want to deal with the random crazies that approach me.

Yeah. A lot of dudes think women are being rude/bitchy if they get annoyed when being approached, but ya gotta keep in mind they've probably been approached by weirdos most times they've gone out and are over it.

A couple weeks ago, I used the fact that I was solo to my advantage. Got into a hard to get into speakeasy in San Diego without a reservation, and occupied the lone empty barstool in the place while everyone who came in after me was standing room only. The bartender must have thought I got stood up by a date.. He kept coming from around the bar to make sure I was doing okay, and he took off a $22 cocktail from my bill when I closed out and apologized to me (for what, I don't know).

I do it pretty much every night when I travel internationally for work. I agree it’s awesome

Got drunk as shite and had some wild nights in Aruba bar hopping by myself a couple months ago

I mean, did he think you were fishing and came up empty that night, paying for your own drinks?

Agree. Good way to meet men as well. I have several single friends I always say this to. Strangers strike up a conversation with me probably half the time I'm somewhere alone. Problem is, I think some of my friends don't enjoy being somewhere alone so they see the money required to go more than just once as a waste.

Being that I'm not single, I'm not going somewhere to be spoken to. I'm going to get a drink. So the cost isn't an issue. I don't agree with their stance since I genuinely enjoy it, but I suppose I see their point. "Why as a woman spend money in hopes of maybe meeting a man?"

Drinking alone at a bar is really only for the mentally ill.

I have no idea. Maybe since it is a trendier speakeasy, they don't get a lot of solo folks? That doesn't seem right though. You'd think any popular place would catch work travelers.
