Hell, where I am the road crews have fixed this by putting the cones up like 25 yards from where they are working and not putting signs down the way.
It is like those frickers are trying to make traffic as shite as possible.

Screw that. Those assholes aren't trying to merge properly, they are trying to skip a bunch of vehicles. You can tell because they are hauling arse to get as far ahead as quickly as possible before they merge and by merge, they usually just cut someone off in a gap that was not big enough for a natural merge without any attempt to put their blinker on and give the drivers a chance to open up the gap more.
frick those people. I will continue to tighten up my gap and laugh at them on the occasion that everyone else ahead of me did what I did and forced them to come to a complete stop by the cones. If I merged ahead of time and waited in line so can the rest of you mofos. Last time that happened, the driver was honking because I didn't let them in right before they end of the line. I honked back and flipped the bird.

I like how they think if a lane is closed on a busy stretch of interstate there’s going to be free flowing traffic and an opportunity to zipper merge. Traffic is going to back up because of volume and people slowing down through the construction zone. Zipper merges may be most efficient in theory but they’re never going to be properly executed on packed busy stretches of interstate.
How about they stop shutting lanes down for construction outside of overnight hours.
