Nicholson from the bridge to campus is already a third world level road. I assume they're going to wait until the bridge is under construction to inevitably repave it.
This section of Nicolson will also be under construction at the same time! Zero planning

I’m getting off at Juban now each morning to go to work on N. Sherwood. I imagine when this starts I’ll have to get off at Satsuma and go through Watson & Central to get to work, and I never get on I-10!

Here in Greensboro NC, I40 through town was a 4 lane interstate when I moved here almost 25 years ago.
The MASSIVE project that took place many yeard ago increasing it to up to 8 lanes, 10 lanes in some areas took years. Yeah, massive pain in the arse, but it had to happen and is worth it once completed.
Roadwork is always a huge pita. No getting around it. Find other routes. Problem is other drivers will do the same and traffic on those other routes will suck too.

All that ideling is going to put tractors in regen and diesel fleet service companies will make even more green.
Over or under you will have days I-10 is backed up to Jennings, LA coming from the West?

Airline Hwy is gonna be a clusterfrick also. This is gonna affect the whole city with people taking different routes

But you don't have to shut the whole thing down. TXDOT is adding a lane in both directions in south Austin and the only thing shutdown so far is the turnarounds under the bridge and that's not even all the time.

They have to replace the 70+ year old foundation for the elevated section of highway in Baton Rouge. That’s why they have to cut it down to 1 lane. It’s not simply a widening project unfortunately. Would be a lot easier if it was.
Needs to happen. Wish there was a way to keep from closing so much of the highway.

Yall let me know when it's done. I've been flying to Houston anyway.
Seriously though, arrangements need to be made. Businesses should consider some WFH options. Ask the public to stay off the streets if they don't have somewhere to be. I know that's tough to do and people just do what they want, but at least give it a shot.

Do not try to put these fricks in a podium. Let's not forget that the Beaumont/Orange I-10 section is STILL a death zone.

In fairness, They’ve redesigned that stretch of I10 continuously to keep up with the traffic flow. It’s still under construction cause of the change orders. Hard to throw stones at TXDOTD when you’re in Louisiana.

In BR, people will still get in wrecks without moving

That’s a good point. Seems like it’s been 15 years.

I noticed they have a big staging area and some equipment at the split now. I assume this is preparation for all of this? It's going to suck big time.

I-10 through Baton Rouge was obsolete when it opened in the late 1960s.

Up to one year in Louisiana means up to one decade.
The complete incompetence of this state never seems to amaze me. States like Wisconsin, Minnesota and whatnot that have a handful of months to get roadwork started and finished due to the ground freezing can do so and usually finish their projects early.
Wisconsin can pave 60 miles of 3 lane interstate before 15 LADOTD workers standing around with shovels decide what to eat for lunch.

Every Baton Rouge politician should have to start their day by driving back and forth through this impending mess
It’s the only way to have a shot at on time completion

Hilarious! Baton Rouge is the way it is now because people complain if inconvenienced at all. They have tried to improve I-10 before, but it never even gets started because people complain about the short-term without considering the long-term. We wouldn't have this conversation now if people would have been progressive thinkers 20 years ago like the North Carolina people who are now benifitting.
