I always said when I retire I would love to travel around and operate a food booth at different festivals around the country. I love to cook, and it’s free entry to music festivals and such. So if I could quit my job tomorrow, I’d probably eventually start doing that.

Probably like an assistant football coach at the high school level. It'll keep me somewhat busy, but nowhere near the stress of being the head coach.

I'd probably work at Ace Hardware or a gun shop.

My mom worked at IAH for 8 years as the manager for the wheelchair service provider company. She loved it and would run into friends frequently at the airport. She was in a similar boat but she wanted something to do while she transitioned to an empty nester. My dad still worked every day so she got bored of playing tennis and doing housewife stuff.

You have to be an incredibly boring person to not be able to fill your time without a job

I'm at the age where a lot of people I know have retired and it usually goes one of two ways:
Either they say the common "I don't know how I ever had time for a job"
Or, they shrivel and die soon without something that drives them
I have no plans to retire soon but expect I'll be in the first group

the guy said he played golf for a living
That is definitely what I would do if I was really rich enough to not work. Just play golf all day, and other stuff for fun
Was his name Brian Kelly?

If you're bored then you're boring? Did you steal this line from Harvey Danger? So original. When you work for the majority of your life, it's actually fun to find what interests you, when you slow down. This isn't breaking news. People work. They retire. They get bored.

Isn't this your current state of being?

We were a one-income family - mine - for 20 years. My ex-wife has a masters degree in education. She was a SAHM but did tutoring at $20 an hour for extra money and to keep herself sharp. She did go back to teaching when our youngest started 1st grade.
I’d probably try to get a volunteer position as a track/cross country coach. I did it as a HS head track coach for 5 years about 15 years ago (my daughter’s team). Most enjoyable thing I’ve ever done.

I'd buy a lot of land and spend my time taking care of it. Improve it for deer/turkey hunting, hobby gardening, fishing, etc.

My mom and dad substitute teach at my old elementary school. They use the extra paycheck for vacations.

My dad is retired and 78 himself. He volunteers at the hospital 3-4 days a week and pushes folks in wheelchairs on walks around the grounds to get them outside. He loves it but he would talk to a tree if he thought it was listening.

My aunt was a volunteer who rocked and held babies in the nicu. I could think of worse ways to spend a day.
777 I bet the people he pushes really appreciate it!
